The Story of Nautilus

Long before anyone alive today walked the docks of Bilgewater, stories were already being told about an armored figure moving through the waters off the Blue Flame Isles. Nautilus is treated less like a person and more like a legend that happens to be real, one nobody can date because he’s simply always been part of the harbor’s folklore.

What drives him traces back to a betrayal so old that even the details have faded, leaving only the pattern of his behavior behind. He gives no warning before he acts, and his massive anchor serves two purposes depending on who’s on the other end of it: it can pull the desperate to safety, or drag the greedy straight down to drown. Sailors describe it as a kind of unwritten toll, the so-called Bilgewater tithe, and Nautilus is said to come collecting whenever someone forgets they owe it.

Staggering Blow roots whoever he hits first, an echo of that same anchor pulling someone into place. Dredge Line hurls the anchor forward, yanking either an enemy or Nautilus himself depending on what it strikes, while Titan’s Wrath wraps him in a shield that turns his attacks into damage over time. Riptide detonates three waves around him, and Depth Charge sends a shockwave chasing a single target before erupting beneath them. Elsewhere in the port, figures like Graves and Illaoi live by very different rules, but none escape the water quite like Nautilus commands it.

Nautilus plays as a Tank in either Top lane or Support, with mana fueling his abilities rather than any oceanic resource of his own. Landing Dredge Line against terrain before following up with Riptide is a common way to secure a gank, and the delayed blast on Riptide doubles as a deterrent for anyone chasing him down. Enemies caught in that same Riptide are usually better off holding still until the ripple finishes rather than running early into a second explosion, and stripping his Titan’s Wrath shield before it triggers area damage is often the safer plan than letting him keep swinging.
