Crimson Desert isn’t just about chopping and epic bosses—the puzzles will also give you a hard time. Scattered throughout the world are Ancient Ruins, mysterious towers to discover, and, of course, chains of floating islands in the Abyss. The latter are perhaps the most challenging. One such puzzle is the Pass of Evil. You’ll only reach it after climbing the Spire of Frost. And then the fun begins.

Guide to Solving the Pass of Evil Puzzle

The method, frankly, isn’t obvious. Enter the chamber—first, look left and up. See the yellow switch? Use Reflections. The light will focus on the switch, turning it blue—and immediately the mechanism will activate: the grate on the floor will slide, revealing a passage below. Don’t miss it. Jump down before the grate snaps back into place.

Secret grate passage

Below is a room with four cubes on the left and four on the right. A clever scheme. First, turn right and use “Powers of the Axiom” on the circular switch. The camera changes perspective—now you can rotate the rightmost four cubes. The goal: select the second cube from the left (in this row) and rotate it until the track on its face aligns with the other three. Eventually, you should have a continuous line on the right through the middle of all four cubes.

Cube puzzle alignment

Disconnect from the right switch. Now do the same—but on the left. Activate the left switch with “Powers of the Axiom” and take control of the leftmost four cubes. Here, you need to rotate the two middle cubes so that their tracks align with the outermost ones. Once again, you’ll achieve a continuous path through all four cubes on the left.

When completed, both sides will look like the screenshot above. The puzzle is challenging, but it unlocks valuables—without them, you won’t get far in the Abyss. And in Crimson Desert, such challenges are generously rewarded.

How to set up lasers and activate cubes in the Abyss?

Abyss laser mechanism

Jump onto the right group of cubes. Watch the left ones. Using the “Powers of the Axiom,” grab the laser beam emitter—it’s on the leftmost cube—and drag it to the center of the second one from the right. Let go. Now jump to the left cubes. Repeat the trick: drag the emitter until it’s again in the center of the same cube (the second one from the right).

The determining factor: you need to jump carefully across the abyss. There’s no floor beneath it—if you fall, you’ll have to start over. Fast travel will return you here, but your puzzle progress will reset. Unpleasant, yes.

Once you’re done with the transfer, your cubes should look like the photo (the reference view). Now return to the place where you were controlling the cubes. Use the “Powers of the Axiom” key on the left switch. Rotate the second cube from the left until the yellow switch on it aligns with the laser beam. Release it. Now rotate the right switch, and rotate the second cube from the left again, achieving the same alignment.

The lasers hit their targets. Both switches turn blue—the door in front of you opens. Check the screenshot again: everything should match.

Where to find the Abyssal Core and complete the trial?

Go through the door and turn left. You’ll see a floating rectangular Abyssal Core—it’s right under a large round switch. Grab it and insert it into the slot underneath. The switch is now powered. One hit with your Palmara, and you’ve completed the Pass of Crime.

There’s a teleporter under the round switch. Use it—it’ll take you to the altar where the Abyssal Artifacts appear. But before you leave, don’t forget to look behind the altar. There’s a large tree there, and in it lies the Fruit of Life. Be sure to pick it up.

Fruit of life tree

Want to move on to the next island? Go through the triangular gate, use “Axiom Powers” on the podium, and the path will be created. New trials await.

Hidden Items and Secret Loot in Pass of Crime

The Pass of Crime contains exactly three unique items, only one of which has an obvious use. The Abyss Core—the local activator key—just hangs in the final room and goes straight into the slot. The other rewards are a bit trickier. Before you clear out the level, remember the golden rule: fast travel resets your puzzle progress but leaves your inventory untouched. Grab the items you need and you’re ready to teleport. Left the area before reaching the altar? You’ll have to start the laser puzzle from scratch.

How to find the Fruit of Life for permanent HP?

This item is the cornerstone of your survivability, cleverly hidden by the developers in the treetop behind the altar. There are no glowing icons here (you’ll have to look closely). In the harsh realities of Crimson Desert, every Fruit of Life you find provides a permanent boost to your maximum HP pool. This isn’t a temporary phial. If you miss a find at this location, you’ll suffer an irreversible health penalty for the rest of your save. And yes, even top-tier gear won’t compensate for this drop.

Abyssal Artifact and Obtaining Passive Bonuses

The second most important reward awaits at the altar. To get there, dive into the teleporter (look for it right under the circular switch). Abyssal Artifacts function as cumulative passives—their overall power scales as you complete other Abyssal islands in the game. Lose even one such artifact, and the overall potential of the entire chain will significantly decrease.
