Ubisoft released the remake of the iconic pirate saga on July 9, 2026, and “Claiming What’s Due” is one of the first missions that often trips up newcomers. The dungeon key isn’t carried by a regular guard, but by Overseer Sotelo. You don’t just need to find it—you need to pick it up, and there are two completely different ways to do so. Below is a step-by-step route, both options, and everything worth picking up along the way.

Where to find the dungeon key in Torres’s estate?
The mission begins in Havana immediately after “A Man They Call the Sage.” After speaking with Bonnet, head to Torres’s estate. The main entrance is guarded by two soldiers. You have two options for infiltration:

-
Take out both with a stealth double assassination and enter through the front door.
-
Go through the gap in the wooden planks to the left of the entrance—for those who prefer complete stealth.
The key itself is located at the top of the estate. You can reach it via a stone staircase in the western part of the complex. The key is carried by Overseer Sotelo, who initially stands in the central courtyard and addresses a group of soldiers.

Two ways to obtain the key: stealth or combat
Method 1: Aerial assassination – quick but noisy
Climb onto the rooftops overhanging the courtyard and wait until Sotelo is directly below you. Jump down, perform an aerial assassination, retrieve the key, and prepare to either engage the alerted guards or make a hasty retreat. This option will take less time, but is almost guaranteed to escalate into a full-scale battle.
Method 2: Silent elimination – longer, but safer
If you prefer pure stealth, wait until Sotelo finishes his speech. After that, the soldiers will disperse, and the Overseer will head to the northeastern part of the mansion alone. Follow him across the rooftops and eliminate him when he’s out of sight of the other guards. The key is yours, no alarm.
| Method | Time | Risk | Difficulty |
|---|---|---|---|
| Air Assassination | Fast | High (combat with guards) | Low |
| Silent Takedown | Longer | Low (no alarm) | Medium |
What else is worth doing in Torres’s estate?
While you’re here, don’t miss out on the extra bonuses:
-
Synchronize with the nearby rooftop observation deck—this will unlock a fast travel point to Torres’s estate.
-
Search the two loot chests in the same area. They aren’t related to the main quest, but they contain resources and coins, so returning for them later when the estate is full of soldiers again will be inconvenient.
How to get to the Sage’s cell and complete the mission?
Once you have the key, head to the Sage’s prison cell—it’s located west of the courtyard. You’ll encounter only one soldier patrolling the northwest corner of the building. The cell door itself is unguarded. Open it to trigger a cutscene, completing the mission.

The next main mission, “The Treasure Fleet,” will begin immediately afterward.
