In ARC Raiders, a tactical extraction shooter from Embark Studios, missions can be deceptively simple. One of them, “Battening Down,” requires you to find and repair a leaking oil pipeline on the “Riven Tides” map. It sounds simple, but in reality, it’s a small test of your attentiveness and survival: the location is open on all sides, and hostile raiders are constantly scurrying across the sand. Where can you find the repair pipe in the “Battening Down” mission?
Head to the northern part of “Riven Tides,” right next to the shoreline. The landmark is two huge pipelines extending north. They’re visible from afar. Immediately after passing the “Stacking Yard” location, you’ll come across a breakwater. Climb it—it’ll open up to a vast view of the sandy beach. Below, right in the sand, are two pipes. Not the huge ones, but smaller ones. The one on the left is the leaking one. You’ll recognize it by the puddle of oil under its base. Approach it, and a prompt to interact will appear. Hold the button, and the character will begin repairing it. The quest will close in a few seconds.
Furthermore, your progress will be saved even if you’re carried out or decide to evacuate yourself. A nice bonus from the developers.
How to survive during repairs (spoiler: you’ll be attacked)?
This is where the main ambush lies. The beach is completely exposed to fire. There’s no cover, except for the occasional boulder. In the PvE lobby, it’s okay—there are only local AI raiders who occasionally spawn nearby. But in PvP mode… the shore turns into a real battle for resources. Hunter players love to hang out near the pipes—you know, a defenseless target.
What to do? Before approaching the pipe, take a look around. I strongly recommend checking the area within a 50-meter radius. Spot any enemies? Either kill them or distract them with noise. If there are too many enemies and they keep returning, don’t be greedy. Set up a couple of barricades. Even a simple shield will cover your back.
When the shore is clear or empty, run to the left pipe. Repair it. That’s it. After that, you can safely head to the extraction point.
One detail: the oil puddle can easily be mistaken for the usual dark sand texture. Take a closer look – it’s slightly shiny. And interaction is only possible if you stand directly at the base of the pipe. Not on the first try? Try moving slightly.
Overall, the “Battening Down” quest is a perfect example of how the world of ARC Raiders punishes haste. Pace is secondary to caution here. Take your time, keep your head on your shoulders, and the pipe will be fixed. Good luck on “Riven Tides.”
