Old guides for the original Black Flag no longer work for Resynced. Ubisoft updated the graphics and, in the process, altered the locations of many islands, reworked map clues, and moved certain stashes. In the remaster, 30 treasure maps lead to 30 buried chests, but the mechanic remains the same: find the map first, then dig up the treasure. The game won’t let you dig up a chest without the map, even if you know the exact coordinates.

An important point: all maps fall under the “Secrets” category. If there are undiscovered secrets left on an island, there is a good chance one of them is a treasure map. Synchronize with a viewpoint, and the map icon will appear on the area map. You can view all found maps in your inventory; the dedicated treasure map tab is a huge help, as most maps lead to an island completely different from the one where they were found.

We have gathered all the maps by region and listed the exact coordinates and rewards so you don’t have to sail the Caribbean blindly.

What has changed regarding treasure hunting in Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag Resynced

Black Flag treasure map

The main difference between Resynced and the original is the technical upgrade. The game has been moved to the Anvil engine—the same one used in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The graphics are more realistic, long loading times are gone, and weather and time of day now affect visibility.

However, there are some nuances that directly impact the treasure hunt:

  • Treasure coordinates have changed. On some islands, the chests are located in completely different spots than in the original. If you played Black Flag back in 2013 and are relying on your memory—don’t; you’ll have to search all over again.
  • Maps are not tied to the island where they were found. Most maps lead to a completely different region. Find a map on Tortuga, and you’ll need to prepare to sail to Matanzas.
  • Restored maps are a new feature in Resynced. You can assemble five maps from fragments obtained from the merchant on Great Inagua; each leads to a unique treasure containing legendary rewards.

Restored Maps from the Merchant: What They Are and How They Work

Great Inagua merchant

A new feature in Resynced is restored maps. The treasure merchant is located on Great Inagua, but his services become available only after restoring the building for 5,000 Reales. There are five maps in total, each requiring a specific number of fragments and resources.

Important: Fragments for restored maps are not guaranteed drops; they have a specific probability of appearing. If you aren’t lucky on the first try, don’t despair—warehouses and hideouts can be raided again after completing scout missions in Kenway’s Fleet.

Map #26 — Restored Preserved Map

  • Fragments: 4; dropped when raiding warehouses.
  • Resources: 150 Tobacco + 500 Reales.
  • Treasure: Sacrifice Island, coordinates (14, 554), near the stone arches.
  • Reward: Legendary “Cloak of the Shadow” outfit + “Wooden Eye” amulet.

Map #27 — Restored Yellowed Map

  • Fragments: 10; obtained from trade missions in Kenway’s Fleet.
  • Resources: 100 Aloe + 500 Reales.
  • Treasure: Black Island, coordinates (915, 617).
  • Reward: Unknown (details pending).

Map #28 — Restored Half-Digested Map

  • Fragments: 2; obtained from white jaguars. A reliable spawn point is Great Inagua, coordinates (825, 439), past the wild boars near the swamps.
  • Resources: 200 Rum + 500 Reales.
  • Treasure: Santanillas, coordinates (188, 215), in the tunnel beneath the ruins.
  • Reward: Hunter Outfit + Hunting Amulet (reduces animal detection radius).

Map #29 — Restored Tattered Map

  • Fragments: 3; found in the captain’s chests of pirate-hunter ships. Raise your wanted level, wait for frigates to appear, board them, and select “Open Captain’s Chest.”
  • Resources: 200 Sugar + 500 Reales.
  • Treasure: Florida, coordinates (381, 803), by a skeleton near a shipwreck.
  • Reward: Elite Wheel, Elegant Crew Uniform, and Gilded Sails.

Map #30 — Restored Faded Map

  • Fragments: 6; found in large chests within smuggler’s dens: Petite Caverne, Jiguey, San Juan, Ambergris Key, and Annotto Bay.
  • Resources: 150 Spices + 500 Reales.
  • Treasure: Misteriosa, coordinates (914, 124), to the right of the spot where pirates are fighting.
  • Reward: “Gargoyle’s Breath” Pistol + Persian Scimitars.

Which treasures to seek first — top rewards

Not all treasures are equally valuable. If you have just started your playthrough and want to upgrade the Jackdaw quickly, here are the priorities:

Priority Map Reward Why it’s needed
1 #8 — Mayaguana → Andreas Elite Harpoon Upgrade Blueprint Makes whale and shark hunting easier, provides resources for upgrades
2 #12 — Tortuga → Matanzas Elite Mortar Capacity Blueprint Increases mortar ammunition, critical for naval battles
3 #7 — Abaco → Salt Lagoon “Serpent” Figurehead Blueprint Improves appearance and grants a terror bonus
4 Restored Save “Shroud of Shadow” + “Wooden Eye” Legendary items that change gameplay

If your goal is 100% completion and the Platinum trophy, you will have to collect everything. However, the Platinum doesn’t require all 105 secrets—only those that yield artifacts, swords, and pistols.

What should you do after collecting all the buried treasure?

Once all 30 treasure maps have been found and the chests dug up, you have two options:

  1. Focus on other collectibles. There are 105 secrets in Resynced: treasure maps, message bottles, and special chests that yield items rather than money. Standard money chests (84 in total) do not count towards trophies.
  2. Fully upgrade the Jackdaw.

Nothing is missable in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced—all collectibles remain available for free-roaming after the story concludes. So, if you missed anything during the campaign, you can always go back and get it.
