Marvel Rivals released its 20 August update without a period of server downtime. The patch fixed separate problems involving Loki and Hela and prepared three cosmetic bundles for the store.

The changes are narrow, so players do not need to learn a new balance system. The update focuses on visible animation and movement errors that could interrupt normal play.

The Loki fix corrected an animation problem

Lady Loki’s lower-body animation could bend incorrectly while using the team ability linked to Hela. The patch restored the intended movement. The problem was visual, but a clear animation still matters during a fast fight. Players use a character’s movement to judge direction and the next action.

Fixing the pose also improves recorded clips and spectator views. A visual error can distract players even when it does not change damage or health.

Hela can move again after using Astral Flock

Hela could become stuck in place after using Astral Flock from a Thoth’s Wrath area on the Wakanda maps. The update fixed this movement problem. Movement is part of Hela’s survival plan. Being unable to leave the position could turn a successful ability into an immediate defeat.

The fix is more important than a cosmetic adjustment because it restores control to the player. Users should still update the game before entering a match so every client uses the corrected version.

Three cosmetic bundles entered the store

The update prepared the Elegant Eye bundle for Cyclops and the Viridian Vogue bundle for Phoenix. Both limited offers run from 21 August to 18 September. The Attorney at Law bundle for Daredevil also became available on 21 August.

Cosmetic items change appearance but do not provide a combat advantage.

Players can inspect each bundle before spending currency. Checking the individual contents prevents a purchase based only on the first image.

A small patch can still improve match quality

Not every update needs new heroes or large balance changes. Removing a movement lock can make an existing character more reliable immediately. Players who still see either problem should record the map, ability order and time of the error. Those details help the support team reproduce a remaining bug.

The live update makes Loki’s animation and Hela’s movement work as intended in the affected situations.

Players can confirm both fixes in normal matches

A Loki user can test the team ability in a low-pressure area and check that the animation remains stable. A Hela player can use Astral Flock after leaving a Thoth’s Wrath zone on a Wakanda map. Testing one condition at a time makes a remaining bug easier to report. A clip should show the hero, map, ability order and result without unrelated effects covering the screen.

The patch did not announce damage or health changes for these heroes. Players should not change a full character setup because of the two fixes alone.

No server downtime reduced disruption

Players could install the patch and return without waiting for a long maintenance window.

This approach is suitable for a small update when the server systems do not require a larger change.

The client still needs the correct files before play. Restarting the game after an update avoids entering with an older local version or an incomplete download.

The store dates are separate from the patch date

The game update arrived on 20 August, while the listed bundles became available on 21 August. Keeping those dates separate prevents players from searching the store before an item is active. The Cyclops and Phoenix bundles also have a stated end date on 18 September. The Daredevil bundle has an availability start, but the notes do not present the same limited window.

Players should rely on the live store for regional price and currency information. The patch notes confirm contents and timing, not a universal cash price.

The fixes target clear problems rather than changing hero balance

The update corrects behaviour that did not match the intended controls. Hela’s movement and Loki’s animation could create confusing moments for the player. Fixing those cases should make the result of an action easier to predict.

This is different from a balance patch. The notes do not present new damage values or a major change to either hero’s role. Players can continue using familiar builds while checking that the corrected abilities now respond consistently.

A focused update also makes testing easier. If a problem remains, players can report the exact hero, ability and situation. That information helps the developer reproduce the issue without searching through unrelated system changes.
