PUBG developers have released patch 41.1—and it’s unexpectedly big. It features a hybrid scope with 1x and 4x zoom, a new foregrip that cuts through both vertical and horizontal shots, a flare for calling in supply crates, and even destructible terrain on Erangel. Plus, they’ve completely removed the angled foregrip. Let’s take it one step at a time.

Hybrid Optics and Angled Grip: What’s Changed

The developers admitted that after removing the cantilever sight, players began to struggle at various distances. The solution is a universal hybrid scope. Press a key, and 1x zoom switches to 4x. It’s convenient, especially when you’re running around town and immediately firing into the distance.

And for those who want to control recoil, they’ve added an angled foregrip. The numbers are as follows:

  • Vertical recoil: +12%
  • Horizontal: +6%
  • Camera shake when firing: +25%

Old attachments have also been reworked. The angled forend no longer falls off on maps—goodbye. However, the smaller grip has increased horizontal recoil control from 8% to 16%.

The Dragunov has been nerfed, and six barrels will be removed in July.

Of the weapons, only the Dragunov rifle has been nerfed. Vertical recoil has dropped by about 20%, but horizontal recoil has increased by 15%. This will make shooting a bit more difficult, but some will actually find it more enjoyable.

Furthermore, Krafton has warned in advance: rarely used barrels will be removed from the game in Patch 42.1 (July). List:

  • Mosin rifle
  • R45
  • DP-28
  • PP-19 “Bison”
  • P1911
  • QBU

Erangel can now be mined—even with a pickaxe

Terrain destructibility has reached even the oldest map. Now on Erangel, you can blow up terrain with a grenade, mortar, Panzerfaust, C4, a pickaxe, or simply ramming it with a vehicle. Rocks also crumble.

Erangel destructible terrain explosion

The pickaxe has been added—it can be used to dig deeper holes on all maps with destructible terrain. On Erangel, the destruction rate of some zones is limited, but the mechanics are still active in ranked and custom matches.

Flare Launcher: Call in a Supply Crate

You can now call for backup at any time. The Emergency Support Flare Launcher can be found in airdrops, secret rooms, loot trucks, campsites, and supply drops.

How it works: Fire a crate—it drops within a ~1 meter radius of the rocket’s landing site. It always contains three types of ammunition. There’s an 80% chance of containing at least one item from the “shield” category (a flare gun with an emergency shield or a deployable shield) and “useful” (an All-in-1 repair kit, medics). Bonuses are sometimes added or, conversely, excluded.

An important detail: the crate doesn’t land on fixed transport routes (ferries, cable cars, trains).

Suppressor Backpack: Now Three Tiers

The former Suppressor Backpack is now Tier 2. Tiers 1 and 3 have been added. The capacity is the same as regular backpacks of the corresponding tiers. However, protection from the blue zone increases: Tier 1 < Tier 2 < Tier 3.

The first two tiers are located throughout the map. The third one is only available in care packages (including those triggered by the Flare Gun), secret rooms, loot trucks, Lab Camp, emergency deliveries, and… the Blue Chip Tower.

Blue Chip Towers can now trigger care packages using enemy chips

New feature: Activate the tower, press the “H” key, and spend two enemy blue chips to receive an care package. It looks like a Flare Gun, but the contents are different. The chips are not destroyed; they remain on the tower. The original owners can approach and retrieve them (press “F”). Calling allies still works with “F.”

Ranked Matches: Rewards, Leaderboards, and Destructibility

Ranked Matches all medals

Season 41 added ranked weapon skins for the Lynx high-caliber rifle (permanent rewards). Leaderboards will be reset after maintenance. See your previous rank in Career. Destructible terrain is now available in Ranked Mode on Erangel, Miramar, Taego, and Rondo. The opening hours of some Ranked Modes have been adjusted for different regions.

Bug Fixes (Short Summary)

A slew of bugs have been fixed: attachments weren’t automatically equipped during tactical recruitment, the camera wouldn’t move when prone near an obstacle, and health was incorrect when spectating an enemy in a vehicle. On Deston, the lighting inside buildings has been normalized. In the interface, we’ve fixed attachment icons on the Charms page, a blank screen in the Appearance section, a disappearing panel in the lobby editor, and the display of UGC tags.

Skins: Removed the shadow in the P90’s crosshair with the Ranked skin, and fixed overlapping issues on clothing (B.Duck + gloves, “Simple Cattleman” + jackets, Jennie ski pants with stockings and boots, Timekeeper boots with some pants, hair with the PCS4 mesh cap, and the bottom of sports jackets).

New Xeno Point mode: fending off xenos.

The developers have added a PvE mode to Miramar. Players fend off waves of enemy invaders (xenos), collect trophies, and take down powerful bosses. Co-op, hardcore, and plenty of ammo.

Incidentally, alongside the patch, PUBG launched a collaboration with Balenciaga—16 items inspired by the Spanish fashion house and a special showroom on Erangel. But that’s a whole other story.
