A Victory Royale may now be less impressive than it looks. Following the launch of Fortnite Override, players have reportedly discovered matches where only 25 out of 100 participants were real people. The remaining slots were apparently filled by AI-controlled bots.

The possible change was first highlighted by user Au5la, who examined lobby composition after the new season arrived. Fortnite insider SpushFNBR later claimed that the share of AI opponents in regular Battle Royale matches may have increased from 35% to 75%.

This would mean that a player could face only 24 human opponents in an entire match. However, the reported figure should not yet be treated as universal. Epic Games has not officially announced any adjustments, while the number of bots may depend on the region, time of day, selected mode, account level, and matchmaking conditions.

Why Are There More Bots in Fortnite Matches?

Bots are not new to Fortnite. Epic Games uses them to fill lobbies more quickly, as a standard Battle Royale match requires 100 participants. AI opponents also give newcomers an opportunity to learn the basic mechanics without immediately facing experienced players.

Epic may have increased the bot limit in Fortnite Override to reduce matchmaking times. The game now spreads its audience across numerous official playlists, limited-time events, and community-made experiences, leaving fewer players available for some individual queues.

This approach has an obvious advantage: matches can begin faster, even in less active regions or late at night. At the same time, it changes the overall experience. Bots move less naturally, make predictable decisions, and rarely create the tension that brings many players back to Battle Royale.

A high percentage of AI opponents can also make personal statistics less meaningful. Victories, eliminations, and successful match streaks do not always show how well someone performs against real players.

How to Find Fortnite Matches With Fewer Bots

Players looking for a more competitive experience should consider trying Ranked mode. Its matchmaking rules are stricter, and the proportion of bots is generally expected to be lower. The trade-off is that queue times may be longer, while the human opponents are likely to be considerably more skilled.

There are several important details to keep in mind:

  • The 75% figure comes from player testing and has not been confirmed by Epic Games;
  • Lobby composition may vary significantly between matches;
  • New players usually encounter more AI-controlled opponents;
  • Ranked matches are more likely to include a higher percentage of real players.

Further testing is needed before anyone can claim that every match contains 75 bots. Early findings nevertheless suggest that Epic Games may have raised the AI limit for the new season. The main question now is whether the system will remain in place throughout Fortnite Override or be adjusted in response to community feedback.
