After a nine-year testing period, the legendary extraction shooter from the St. Petersburg studio Battlestate Games will finally receive the final version. The release of Escape from Tarkov Steam and the official launcher of the developer will open access to both experienced fighters and beginners who want to immerse themselves in the hardcore gameplay of Tarkov. In this article, we analyze the key features of the Tarkov game on release, technical specifications and everything you need to know before launching.

What Escape from Tarkov is famous for: the history

of the EFT project is rightfully considered the ancestor of the extraction shooter genre. The project defined the basic gameplay elements, which were later adopted by dozens of other developers. When announced, the development of Battlestate Games was positioned as “MMOFPS with RPG elements” — there was no clear term for such a concept at that time. Since the launch of alpha testing, many analogues have appeared, but Escape from Tarkov remains the benchmark and one of the longest-lived representatives of the genre.

The uniqueness of the project lies not only in the game mechanics of survival. The St. Petersburg studio has relied on an authentic setting of the post—Soviet space – Tarkov game locations include factory complexes, residential areas with typical buildings, woodlands and industrial zones. Such aesthetics became a revelation for the Western audience and caused a wave of nostalgia among the Russian-speaking community.

The main trump card was an unprecedented degree of realism. The game doesn’t hold back – mess up and you’ll feel it, from treating injuries to stocking up at the shops. That tense vibe sets it apart from other games out there.

Tarkov game features and gameplay: what will change in 2025

You can really trick out your guns in this game. After working on it for years, EFT has one of the most detailed gun customization systems out there. Besides the usual scopes and muzzle devices, you can mess with all sorts of handguards, receiver boxes, and bolt groups. Each little thing changes how the gun feels, how it kicks, and how accurate it is — getting it right can really help you win in raids.

There are lots of different places to play, and the weather changes too. Tarkov gives you lots of ways to try to survive: You might be doing a night raid in a factory, or heading out into the woods during the day. Rain makes it hard to see, snow covers up your footsteps, and fog can turn any bush into a hiding spot. You have to be ready for anything, and that means picking the right gear.

The game is hard because of how the bullets work. How well you do in a fight depends on a lot: what kind of ammo you’re using, how strong your armor is, how far away the other person is, and how good your meds are. Even a small change to your gun can make a difference, like a grip that helps you control the recoil just a little bit better.

You can build up your hideout and craft stuff. The crafting system and the game’s economy are a big part of the experience. As you build up your base, you can start making rare meds, ammo, and gun parts. Knowing how to manage your resources and trade on the flea market is just as helpful as being a good shot and thinking smart.

Sound is super important. In EFT, sound is its own thing. The sound of your gear, the twigs snapping when you walk, the click of a gun — anything can give you away. Good players use sound to figure out how far away someone is, what they’re using, and what they’re up to. Every fight becomes a mind game hearing these sounds.

Escape from Tarkov System Requirements: minimum and recommended PC configuration

For the Escape from Tarkov 2025 update, the folks who made the game tweaked the tech specs. The minimum requirements will let you play, but if you want it to run smoothly, they suggest going for the recommended setup.

Release System Requirements — 2025

Configuration Type System Specifications
Minimum OS: Windows 10
Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 5600
RAM: 16 GB
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER
DirectX: Version 11
Recommended OS: Windows 11
Processor: Intel Core i7-13700F
RAM: 64 GB
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti
DirectX: Version 11

⚙️ These specs ensure smooth gameplay and stable FPS — even at high visual settings.

Special attention should be paid to the requirements for the graphics card — the project uses detailed textures and complex lighting effects. The presence of an SSD is critically important for reducing the loading time of massive locations and preventing FPS drawdowns during dynamic events.

When is the release date of Escape from Tarkov 1.0

The release date of Escape from Tarkov version 1.0 is scheduled for November 15, 2025, 6:00 AM (New York, EST). The launch will take place simultaneously in the official Battlestate Games launcher and on Steam, where the game has already collected an impressive 750,000 additions to the wish list.

At the moment, the release has been confirmed exclusively for PC. There was no information from the developers about porting to console platforms or distribution through the Epic Games Store. Given the specifics of the management and the demands on the hardware, a console version is unlikely in the near future.
