Valve has temporarily removed Meepo from the Dota 2 hero pool. This restriction applies to all game modes, including ranked matchmaking. The cause is a critical bug that allows for infinite duplication of Town Portal Scrolls and unlimited gold earning. This isn’t the first time Meepo has been affected in 2026—Valve patched a similar vulnerability in March, but the fix was incomplete.

The new exploit works by manipulating inventory, stashes, and clone synchronization during teleportation. We’ve analyzed the mechanics of the bug, compiled a timeline of all Meepo outages in 2026, and estimated when Valve might reinstate the hero.

How does the Meepo teleportation scroll duplication bug work?

According to industry media, the bug is related to an error synchronizing the state of Meepo clones after using teleportation. If one clone activates a Town Portal Scroll while the other is changing items in the stash, the game may “forget” to reduce the scroll’s charge. As a result, the clone ends up with a scroll with a full charge—and this happens every time.

In practice, this allows for an unlimited number of Town Portal Scrolls to be created in a single match. By selling excess scrolls, the player receives an endless supply of gold, completely disrupting the game’s economy.

Why Meepo Was Disabled Again—A Timeline of Bug Issues in 2026

This isn’t the first time Meepo has been disabled this year. In patch 7.41 (March 31), Valve already fixed the consumable duplication via the courier, but it appears the problem goes deeper. In June 2026, a bug report about Poof not working correctly when holding CTRL appeared on the official Dota 2 GitHub repository. The developers confirmed the issue, but didn’t have time to release a fix. The current TP Scroll bug is the third critical incident in six months.

Table: All Meepo Bugs in 2026

Date Bug Type Fix Status
March 31, 2026 Courier consumables duplication Fixed in Patch 7.41
June 2026 Incorrect Proof (CTRL cast) Confirmed, fix not released yet
July 2, 2026 Town Portal Scroll duplication via clones Temporarily blocked, fix in development

Valve hasn’t given an exact timeline, but based on experience with previous bans (for example, the Techies ban in 2022), such critical bugs are fixed within 24-48 hours. Given that the bug affects the match economy, a fix should be released promptly. Industry media outlets suggest the patch could appear as early as the next 24 hours.
