Pirate survival Windrose launched in early access and immediately became a hit — more than a million copies in the first week, peaking online at 200,000 people. But two weeks is a short time, and part of the audience has already gone through all three initial biomes inside and out. A logical question hung in the air: What’s next and when?
On April 28, Kraken Express studio published a detailed appeal to the community, in which it honestly outlined the immediate prospects.

What will be fixed in Windrose in the coming weeks: patches and updates
First of all, the team will focus on technical issues. Over the next few weeks, the developers promise to release patches that will affect:

CPU load — especially in standby mode on servers

quality of life — minor but important INTERFACE and gameplay improvements
Only then will the entire team switch to creating new content.
Windrose Ashlands: the first major content update will be released in at least 6 months
The first major addition will be a new biome called Ashlands. Kraken Express has designated a minimum period of six months, explaining this by the scale of its plans.
The developers directly say: they prefer to release one big and high-quality update rather than several small ones that will not make a proper impression. According to them, the game now contains about half of the planned final content — players are waiting for new biomes, bosses, enemies, ships and loot.
In an appeal to the community, the studio recalled how, shortly before the release, it had asked for time, and stated that it had not been wasted. The message is simple: trust us again, and we won’t let you down.
Windrose 2026 Roadmap: when will it appear and what will be included in it
There is no official roadmap yet — its appearance is predicted by Kraken Express in one or two months. At the same time, players will be able to get a clearer idea of the order in which the content will be released.
At the same time, the studio announced a separate page for bug reports and requests for new features — now the community has a structured feedback channel.
The developers estimate the total period of early access at one and a half to two and a half years. These are the standard frameworks for survival games with crafting and an open world, although it’s not easy for an audience that has already invested in the game at the start.

Six months is a serious pause in an era when many studios churn out content every few weeks. But Kraken Express has arguments: they have already proved that they can work for a long time, and the early access release — despite the obvious roughness in the multiplayer — received high marks on Steam.
For a pirate server with such a start, consolidating success is more important than rushing. If Ashlands really turns out to be a full—fledged expansion, and not just a piece of a new map, the credit of trust will be justified.
