Eclipse Glow Games, a Chinese studio founded with the support of Tencent, is developing a dark fantasy adventure based on Arthurian legends. The story takes place in modern-day London, torn apart by an invasion from another dimension. The protagonist, Gwendolyn, the last human on the planet, fights monsters with the help of mysterious Knights, semi-corporeal warriors from ancient legends.

Tides of Annihilation combat system without hardcore difficulty
Ari Chen, game director and co-CEO of Eclipse Glow Games, has clearly stated that the project is not positioned as another extremely difficult Soulslike. The goal is to make the combat system understandable from the very beginning, while maintaining a high skill ceiling. Players will be able to quickly execute spectacular moves, but perfect use of the Knights’ timing, mechanics, and combos will require significantly more experience. The creators hope to attract a wide audience without sacrificing depth. They draw inspiration from Devil May Cry, Final Fantasy, and God of War.
Balancing humor and the dark setting
Despite the bleak setting, the developers intentionally add lighthearted and even humorous moments. According to Chen, humor is essential to keep players from feeling constantly tense. Gwendolyn is joined by a girl named Ninien, who can transform into a bird. Another memorable character, Mercury, is a pair of snake arms that replace a full-fledged body and act as a merchant and guide.
The contrast is especially noticeable while exploring the world. One minute you are watching a humorous scene with characters, and a few minutes later you are discovering bodies crumbling to dust or studying the final logs of the dead. Maintaining a balanced tone is one of the team’s main goals.
Gwendolyn and the controversy surrounding her appearance
The developers describe the heroine as strong, confident, and graceful at the same time. She should be perceived not only as a visually striking character but also as a full-fledged centerpiece of the story and gameplay. Gwendolyn’s appearance has recently been the center of controversy. After the release of a 40-minute gameplay trailer, fans noticed changes. Producer Fu Kun explained that the character’s face had not changed—the differences were due to lighting settings and rendering issues. He acknowledged that the version shown was a bit rough and promised further improvements.

Main character voice actress change
The project has experienced a difficult voice actress change. Jennifer English, who previously voiced Gwendolyn, has left the role. The studio admitted they were upset by her departure but supported her decision to prioritize her health. English personally assisted with the transition and participated in the search for a new actress.
The new actress is rumored to be Angela Sant’Albano, known for her role as Grace Ashcroft in Resident Evil Requiem. The character’s personality will remain the same, and the voice change did not affect the production schedule.
Release date and demo at Gamescom 2026
Tides of Annihilation does not yet have a specific release date. However, Eclipse Glow Games is preparing new content and a playable demo for upcoming major events. Visitors to Gamescom 2026 from August 26th to 30th will be the first to try the public demo in Hall 6, Booth B-050.
The studio is also partnering with NVIDIA and using Unreal Engine 5. The game will be released on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, tentatively in 2026.
The developers are not chasing a hardcore audience. They are building a game where you can laugh, cry, and simply enjoy the combat. The only question is whether they can maintain this balance before release.
