Taner Games has announced the release date of The Awakener: Battle Tendency, an action RPG with a hack-and-slash twist and a deep loot system. The game will be available on PC via Steam on May 5th.

The studio hasn’t settled for flashy mechanics. No battle passes, no daily quests, and no FOMO. One purchase gets you approximately 20-50 hours of handcrafted work without fluff or repetitive side quests. Sounds like a breath of fresh air, right? It feels like the team is yearning for the good old days when games were bought once and for all.

The Awakener Battle Tendency Review: Gameplay and Features

This is a third-person action game where you control the Awakened—warriors from different eras. The goal? Confront the echoes of fate and prevent the King of Erosion (the local demon lord) from destroying everything around you. The battlefields are constantly changing—illusory, unpredictable. You’ll dodge, position yourself, and find openings to deal damage. No standing still or skill spamming. The pace of combat here is built around precise movements and timing, not mindless clicking.

The developers admit: during their own playtests, they lost track of time. Especially when critical hits flashed across the screen and damage numbers flooded the surrounding area.

“We wanted to make a game that we ourselves would enjoy playing after work,” says Taner Games. No “services” you have to log in to every day to stay on track. Just a run, a cool item with unusual affixes dropped, and you closed Steam with a smile. Like the old Diablo or Musou. You remember that feeling, right? This is a tribute to classic looter-slashers, and it’s felt in every mechanic.

The gear system is a unique experience. Random affixes combine in ways that surprised even the developers. Chain lightning that leaps across enemies, meteors on critical hits, attack speed that turns a character into a machine gun—during playtests, players discovered builds the studio hadn’t even considered. “It was great to see,” the developers quietly rejoice. It seems the meticulous approach to balance has given the game a vast array of possibilities for experimentation.

And no seasons, no battle passes. One check, and you own the full package. Each level is handcrafted, and upon completion, a higher difficulty level is unlocked for those who want to test their builds. Incidentally, 20-50 hours is without any artificial bloat. Just the meat. Variety here is achieved not through repetition, but through honest content. Apparently, Taner Games has hit a nerve. With the game’s release on Steam on May 5th approaching, all that’s left to do is add it to your wishlist—perhaps this is the kind of game you’ll waste a couple of evenings on and then look at your watch in surprise.
