Undead Labs’ zombie action game State of Decay 3 will feature full, seamless four-player co-op in a persistent open world and will be released in 2027 on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. Journalist Brian Menard, who personally tested an early version of the survival game with the developers and released a detailed video breakdown of the upcoming title, shared the latest insights.

What will change in State of Decay 3 multiplayer?
The sequel’s main feature is a complete overhaul of the co-op mode. The current concept of survival has been radically altered. Now, gamers can explore the map completely independently, without the silly session host lock that was so annoying in previous games. Players can join or leave a co-op at any time. Progress is saved asynchronously, and missions are completed in parallel.
However, running around without a team makes no sense, as Undead Labs places a strong emphasis on collaborative community development. The entire group of players works on developing the same settlements, building a shared base and making key decisions that affect the fate of the entire community, not just individual characters.
Map Scale and Dynamic Threats
The world of the new game has become truly enormous. According to Menard, the new map is approximately four times larger than the territory in State of Decay 2. Exploring it will be significantly more challenging, especially since the developers have completely redesigned the threat system. Local hazards can now evolve and dynamically respond to any actions of the survivors. There will definitely be no time to relax.
As a reminder, the official release of State of Decay 3 is scheduled for 2027, and the list of target platforms includes PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.
