Apparently, Insomniac Games isn’t planning on slowing down after The Wolverine. Ben Jordan—the same actor whose facial expressions and movements brought Peter Parker to life in the final installments of the series—has started posting photos from his motion capture sessions. A spider icon appears under each photo. Plus, a distinctive finger gesture, as if releasing a web. Coincidence? Unlikely.

The studio is currently finishing Marvel’s Wolverine, scheduled for release on September 15th of this year. Logic dictates that immediately after that, the team will shift production to Spider-Man 3. Pre-production is already underway. Otherwise, why would Jordan need arachnid allusions? When to expect the announcement and first trailer for Spider-Man 3 from Insomniac Games

Ben Jordan’s social media activity and the completion of Marvel’s Wolverine have added fuel to the fire: fans of Insomniac Games’ Marvel universe are seriously wondering when the studio will finally reveal its Spider-Man 3 plans. And if you analyze Insomniac Games’ internal rhythm, a rather predictable picture emerges.

What is the announcement cycle like for Insomniac Games and Sony?

The studio adheres to an unspoken rule: approximately a year passes between the completion of one major project and the first teaser for the next. An example is readily apparent. A short trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine surfaced 11 months after the release of Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Similar timing has been observed in the studio’s earlier projects, so it’s hard to call this a coincidence.

The situation is currently unfolding according to a familiar pattern. According to Sony Interactive Entertainment’s calendar, the second half of 2026 is entirely dedicated to promoting Marvel’s Wolverine. This means the window for a new announcement won’t open until spring or summer 2027.

Where and when might Insomniac reveal Spider-Man 3?

The ideal venues would be the PlayStation Showcase in May or the State of Play in September—Sony traditionally prioritizes its premium franchises at these events. Both formats are designed for big announcements, and Spider-Man 3 fits perfectly.

Development & Release Roadmap

Stage Period Expected Details
Wolverine Completion September 2026 Insomniac resources shift to Spider-Man 3
Pre-production Fall–Winter 2026 Casting, concept art, mocap recording
Announcement Trailer May–September 2027 Short teaser with logo and Jordan’s face
Gameplay Debut 2028 Showcase of combat system and new mechanics
Final Release 2028–2029 Cross-platform PS5/PS6

Insider Millie A and Jeff Grubb agree: the first trailer will be shown in the first half of 2027. The release itself, they predict, will coincide with the tenth anniversary of the original Marvel’s Spider-Man—September 2028. Incidentally, the reveal format will likely be synchronized with the updated PS6 lineup. For Sony, this is a chance to turn Spider-Man 3 into a next-generation technological flagship, and it would be a shame to miss it.

Spider Man game cinematic scene

It will, of course, be a long wait. AAA-level projects aren’t built from scratch in a year. Insiders estimate that Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 won’t be released until 2028–2029. And it will almost certainly be a cross-platform release between PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 6. As for PC, there’s a catch.

Unlike the first two games, Spider-Man 3 may not make it to computers. According to recent reports, Sony is winding down PC ports of its story-driven blockbusters. Of course, the release is still years away, and the strategy could change multiple times. But for now, this is the current state of affairs.
