Konami continues to relaunch the iconic horror franchise — the third game in three fall seasons. After the remake of Silent Hill 2 in 2024 and Silent Hill f in 2025, it was the turn of Silent Hill: Townfall. It will be released on September 24, 2026, exclusively on PlayStation 5. The announcement arrived during the fresh State of Play along with a new trailer. They showed a previously unknown character, gameplay excerpts, and a first look at another monster.

Silent Hill Townfall release date trailer and plot завязка

The main character is Simon. He ends up in the town of St. Amelia. The trailer finally revealed the identity of the mysterious voice from the debut video. This is Zoe the nurse, who works at a local family clinic. She simultaneously calls Simon back to the island and asks, “What are you doing here?” The guy cannot answer — he does not remember the city or the woman. The plot is creepy, which is typical for the series.

Plot Riddles and Puzzles Screen Burn Interactive

Screen Burn Interactive (the developers) focus on plot puzzles. Each puzzle was created in parallel with the script, and not screwed in for the sake of gameplay stretching. According to the authors, solving such problems helps the player to better understand Simon’s situation, rather than just opening the door further. “Solving puzzles is not just a way to get ahead. They help us understand Simon’s situation,” the studio explained.

Gameplay Silent Hill Townfall stealth system and monsters

The trailer showed another monster. He chases the hero into the darkness of Another world. In some situations, you will have to engage in battle, but some of the enemies can only be avoided. To do this, Simon has a portable CRTV device and a corner-peeping system. If you assess the danger, you remain unnoticed. The developers warn that if the monster finds you, a full-fledged chase scene will start with serious consequences. You will have to run fast.

PlayStation 5 DualSense Haptic Feedback Features

Konami talked about the advantages of PlayStation 5. Adaptive DualSense triggers will simulate the recoil of weapons. And tactile feedback will convey, for example, the heavy footsteps of a monster that is approaching your shelter. In addition, motion controls will be added. One example is configuring the CRTV signal through the physical tilt of the controller. It is a small thing, but it feels good.

Pre-order bonuses for the Deluxe and Standard editions on the PS Store

Silent Hill: Townfall will be released in two versions:

  • Standard Edition;
  • Deluxe Edition.

For pre-ordering the standard, they will give cosmetic skins “CRTV: Rusted” and “CRTV: Beach Edition”. The Deluxe Edition additionally contains an alternative costume for Simon, a digital artbook, a digital soundtrack, and early access 48 hours before release. Pre-orders are already open on the PlayStation Store.

By the way, unlike the remakes of Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill f, the new game will focus on a more compact story, atmospheric psychological horror and story-oriented puzzles. This is another attempt by Konami to relaunch the franchise after a long-term hiatus — and so far it looks very convincing.

Differences between Silent Hill Townfall and the horror games f and SH2 Remake

Konami pulled off a clever trick with the relaunch of the franchise. The publisher scheduled the releases for three consecutive autumns and distributed them to radically different studios. The decision is absolutely sound. The series simply do not allow you to get stuck in the same mechanics, offering completely different views on the genre.

Konami horror trilogy

The Poles from the Bloober Team (yes, the very authors of Layers of Fear and Observer) worked as meticulous restorers. In the SH2 Remake, the architecture of the levels remained canonical, and although the action game was rebuilt from scratch, it was left mandatory. James Sunderland is still forced to clear locations with a flashlight and a hissing radio at the ready.

The situation is different with Silent Hill f. The Neobards Entertainment team dragged the series into the dense Japanese folklore of the 1960s. No references to Pyramid Head or classic fog. In fact, this is a completely new mythology, under a familiar brand, where Shimizu Hinako performs solo.

But Screen Burn Interactive, a studio without a huge track record, builds Townfall according to completely different drawings. This is the most intimate psychological horror. Forget about the arsenal in your pockets. Instead of guns, Simon carries a strange portable CRTV, and all the puzzles are firmly embedded in the logic of the plot of St. Amelia, and not scattered around the locations just for show.

The main gameplay contrast lies in the approach to skirmishes. If fighting is inevitable in the remake of the second part, then it is better to carefully avoid some of the monsters using stealth. You will have to peek around the corners a lot and not show off. Gameplay is much closer to the paranoid atmosphere of Clock Tower than to the usual action games.

Comparison of the three Silent Hill reboots

  • SH2 Remake (2024): Classics from the Bloober Team. The USA setting, the focus on canon and mandatory redesigned fights.
  • Silent Hill f (2025): The original story of Neobards Entertainment. Focus on Japan, fresh lore and combined collisions.
  • Townfall (2026): Screen Burn Interactive story project. The town of Saint-Amelia, a bet on stealth, psychological pressure and riddles with CRTV.
