At the THQ Nordic Digital Showcase 2026, DigixArt studio revealed a teaser for a new game set in the Road 96 universe. The short clip features the voices of John and Fanny, a familiar desert atmosphere, and the phrase “Get back on the road.” The title, release date, and platforms are still unknown, but fans are already theorizing: which of the original’s endings will become canon for the sequel?
The teaser lasts mere seconds. No gameplay, no names—just a walkie-talkie, voices, and a sense of doom. John is driving, unsure if Fanny is still alive after what happened. She contacts him, and relief is evident in his voice. But the most interesting thing is that Alex doesn’t appear or even is mentioned in the clip.
This is hardly a coincidence.
The original Road 96 had several endings. In one of them—the darkest—President Tyrak retains power, the revolution fizzles out, and Alex (John’s son) dies. Alex’s absence in the teaser is a clue already noted by VG Times and iXBT.games: the sequel will likely build on this ending. The developers, of course, haven’t confirmed anything. But the hints are too thick to ignore.
Additionally, DigixArt already released Tides of Tomorrow this year—a narrative adventure set in a post-apocalyptic ocean world with asynchronous multiplayer. It was released on April 22nd on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game has a similar narrative structure to Road 96, but it’s not a sequel. The new project, however, is a return to Petria.
DigixArt and THQ Nordic are currently keeping quiet. However, on Steam News, the studio has already invited fans to their Discord to share theories and register for playtests. If you want to stay up to date, there’s no better place.
For now, all we can do is guess: what happened to John and Fanny? Will Zoya return? And most importantly, when will we be able to get back on the road? There are no answers. But the intrigue is terribly good.
