Warhorse Studios has officially confirmed the release window for the next installment of Kingdom Come—the game will be released no earlier than April 2027, but no later than March 2028. This follows from a new interview with CFO Tobias Stolz-Zwilling for Shanghai Daily (interpreted by GamerSky). The studio has already registered the trademark “Salvation”—apparently, that’s the name of the third chapter, although it’s possible the title won’t include a number.
While fans are still guessing about the meaning behind the subtitle, the developers have honestly admitted they’re working on two major projects simultaneously. The main focus is on the new Kingdom Come, while a smaller team is busy with preliminary sketches of an RPG based on the Lord of the Rings universe. This will require some time—the project is in its very early stages, and the release is still a long way off.

When will the new Kingdom Come be released: Warhorse’s dates and plans?
The starting point was the current financial year, which ends on March 31, 2027. The next year, 2028, is the deadline, according to Stolz-Zwilling. So, we can confidently target a release between April 2027 and March 2028. Not the shortest time, but for a large-scale RPG, it’s manageable. Incidentally, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s peak online player count on Steam exceeded 256,000 players—the studio is clearly well off and can afford to take its time.
Why Warhorse Isn’t Changing Its Approach to Historical RPGs?
In the same interview, Stolz-Zwilling was blunt: no concessions to trends. No simplification for the sake of the masses. Warhorse remains true to its vision—immersive medieval realism without compromise. It sounds like a mantra, but the studio has truly built the entire series on it. The first part was hardcore, the second a little friendlier, but the roots weren’t betrayed. And now Salvation, apparently, will continue in the same vein, although the subtitle hints at more serious gameplay shifts.

What exactly will change is still a mystery. But the fact that Warhorse isn’t planning on turning Kingdom Come into another fantasy blockbuster is encouraging. “We don’t chase trendy features—we do what we believe in,” is roughly the studio’s stance. And that, you’ll agree, is a rarity these days.
What is known about the second Lord of the Rings project?
The second project is the very same Middle-earth RPG rumored last year. Now it’s official: it exists, but in a very rough form. The team is currently busy with concepts and pre-production, while the bulk of the developers (or, as they say, “the majority”) are working on the new Kingdom Come. So, we’ll have to wait a long time for a Lord of the Rings game—most likely not until the end of the decade.
It turns out that Warhorse has two major goals at once. One is a continuation of the successful series with a clear release window, and the other is a risky but ambitious step into the iconic universe. Apparently, the studio is confident in its abilities—and for good reason.
