Traces of a full-fledged PVE mode have been found in the Deadlock files — it looks like Valve is preparing something in the style of Risk of Rain. Dataminers from the Deadlock UA and minesweeper communities have already posted new findings on X (formerly Twitter) after the latest client update.

What is known about the PVE mode in Deadlock?

Deadlock PVE mode leak

Judging by the merged lines of code, we are waiting for a classic roglike experience inside a competitive shooter. Players will have to form groups to fend off endless waves of mobs, earn currency and spend it on enhancing character characteristics or opening special loot boxes. The developers clearly want to deepen the ENT of the universe — the missions will be directly related to the history of the world. By the way, they promise to give out unique skins for heroes for completing such stages. This is a great way to dilute the sweaty skating rinks online with something more meditative.

When will the new mode be released in Deadlock?

There are no official comments from Valve yet, and this is the norm. Deadlock is currently in closed alpha testing, so Gabe Newell and the team are implementing the chips quietly. In addition to the cooperative mode, the Highlights feature was previously mentioned in the game code. It will allow you to review your juiciest frags immediately after the end of the match.

Key details of the leak:

  • Genre: Cooperative roglike with elements of survival.
  • Rewards: Cosmetic items and skins for completing goals.
  • Source: Data from the Deadlock UA and minesweeper data miners.
  • Status: Under development, there has been no official announcement.

It seems that Valve plans to make Deadlock not just another MOBA, but a huge platform with a lot of activities — from hardcore esports to fan-shooting bots with friends. We are waiting for the patchnotes.
