Michal Nowakowski, head of CD Projekt RED, announced on social media: the studio will not bring fresh materials on The Witcher 4 to the upcoming The Game Awards 2025 ceremony.
In his tweet, Novakovsky shared:
“I am thrilled to have The Witcher 4 nominated in the Most Anticipated Game category at The Game Awards. Thank you to everyone who has already voted – your support is very important to us. We will not be showing new content on TGA this year, but we will be happy to watch the gala evening and celebrate it with you.”
The news slightly disappointed the fans. Many expected to see the gameplay or at least a couple of new shots from the continuation of the legendary series. After all, at last year’s ceremony, CDPR already showed a trailer that lifted the veil over the project — and fans were waiting for the sequel.
The studio chose the path of resource concentration: instead of spin-offs, all internal teams are focused on the flagship games of the franchise.
The studio predicts the release of the new part of The Witcher no earlier than 2027. The very video shown demonstrated the potential of the Unreal Engine 5, rather than ready-made game scenes. Karel Coleman, the lead quest designer who appeared in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, recently joined the team.
When and where will we see The Witcher 4: Forecasts of release dates and future announcements
In short, according to the leaks, CDPR plans to publish the game in its completed form around 2027 and 2028. They’re taking their time because they remember the Cyberpunk 2077 jamb. Now they are learning from their mistakes and making a more adequate plan.
What’s next? It is expected that all kinds of game exhibitions, such as Gamescom or Summer Game Fest, will show their projects in parts. E3 is no more, but there are plenty of other places for that. Most likely, the first serious news from CDPR will appear in 2026 – by that time they will already have something to show.
Experts say that the advertising will be calm and measured. Instead of one big statement, there is a bunch of small news, so that there is interest, but without too much hype. It looks like the game will be released in the spring or fall of 2027, but it may also be postponed to the first half of 2028. In general, keep an eye on the news from CD Projekt RED – they promise to tell you all the most important things about the creation of the game.
