Barry Sloane Reacts to the John Halfprice Meme in Modern Warfare 4 - Image 1

Captain Price has survived firefights, imprisonment, and global military crises, but even he was powerless against a badly rendered haircut. His strange appearance in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 beta quickly spread across social media, and Barry Sloane — the actor who provides Price’s voice and performance capture — has now joined players in making fun of it.

The new meme began with screenshots from the game’s beta. Price’s hair and beard failed to render correctly, making the famously intimidating commander look like a cheap imitation of himself. Players soon gave this unfortunate version of the character a fitting new name: John Halfprice.

Sloane did not try to defend his digital counterpart or argue with the community. Instead, he shared an image of the broken character model and introduced himself from Price’s perspective: “Hi, my name is… John Halfprice.” The actor’s August 25 post received tens of thousands of likes and effectively made the nickname official among fans.

Why Captain Price Looks Different in Modern Warfare 4

This does not appear to be an intentional redesign of the character. Infinity Ward explained that Price’s hair may display incorrectly when his character model is shown at the lowest level of detail. Instead of a complete hairstyle, the game renders only a few uneven strands over a flat texture.

According to the developers, the issue is most noticeable on PCs running lower graphics settings. Players whose systems meet the recommended specifications should not normally encounter it, but the team still plans to fix the bug in a future update. As a result, John Halfprice is unlikely to reach the final version of the game in his current form.

What Barry Sloane’s Reaction Means for Players

The visual bug has no effect on the Modern Warfare 4 story or gameplay. Its real significance is more social: Sloane showed that he follows the community’s reactions and is willing to laugh at the game’s problems alongside its fans.

For Infinity Ward, the meme is another reminder of how quickly even a minor graphical issue can overshadow discussion surrounding a beta. That is especially true when the problem affects the face of one of the most recognizable characters in Call of Duty.

Players must now wait for an update and see how Price’s model looks after the fix. Even if Infinity Ward restores the captain’s proper hairstyle, however, John Halfprice has probably already earned a permanent place in the Call of Duty community’s collection of memes.
