Square Enix developers revealed key details of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation’s combat system at the recent Gamescom Opening Night Live broadcast. Vincent Valentine was the star of the presentation. Game director Naoki Hamaguchi even joked that he seriously feared an imbalance: players risk completely abandoning their party members for this charismatic character.

After a modest role in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the gunslinger will finally receive a full-fledged timer. Players will be able to use him from the very beginning of the game. According to Hamaguchi, the character’s combat mechanics are built on instantly changing distances. Vincent easily combines long-range firefights with close-quarters combat, transforming into a monstrous creature thanks to Jenova cells and Chaos-infused Mako energy.

Another important change will be the FITS mechanic, which reimagines the classic job system. Each hero has four unique presets that change their combat arsenal and appearance. The developers were inspired by iconic franchise classes like the Black Mage and Warrior. Now, there’s nothing stopping you from trying out Cloud as a swordsman warrior or sending Tifa casting spells as a Black Mage.

It’s difficult to say which FITS loadout fans will find optimal for the final battle against Sephiroth. However, Valentine’s updated gameplay is sure to resonate with audiences—the hero’s iconic status speaks for itself.
