Rockstar has finally unveiled details about GTA 6—and there are so many of them, it’s mind-boggling. Dazed magazine gained exclusive access to the development team and published a massive piece in which the game’s creators literally dissected Vice City, the main characters, and the next-generation technology. All this, along with new footage, demonstrates the significant advancement in graphics compared to GTA 5.

And yes, the official release is still scheduled for November 19, 2026. But first things first.

Leonida won’t forgive you if you go outside with a rifle.

The developers’ main goal is to combine the signature madness of Grand Theft Auto with the level of realism and immersion they honed in Red Dead Redemption 2. Leonida—the name of the state where the action takes place—will be much more reactive than anything Rockstar has created before.

The point is simple: your actions actually have consequences. Take to the streets with a gun in your hand—and the world will react. NPCs won’t just stand there or run around according to a pre-set scenario. They’ll behave naturally: assess your appearance, follow trends, and react to what’s happening around them. These aren’t just “smart extras”—Rockstar promises the most diverse and detailed population in the studio’s history. Just imagine: hundreds of types of residents, varying in age, build, tattoos, piercings, movement patterns, and clothing. And over 50 real street artists worked on the murals for Vice City.

Jason and Lucia: Bonnie and Clyde with a Military Past

For the first time in the series, we have a playable pair of protagonists. Jason Duval is a former soldier who turned to drug smuggling. Lucia Caminez has just been released from prison. Their story is in the spirit of Bonnie and Clyde, where relationships become one of the foundations of the plot. But there’s a catch: according to the latest information, the campaign’s launch will be entirely dedicated to Jason. Players will be able to unlock Lucia as a full-fledged character only after a series of story missions centered around her liberation.

Jason and Lucia GTA 6

Switching between characters has also been redesigned. In GTA 5, you could simply switch characters at any time—here, things are more sophisticated. On the way to a job, you drive as Jason, then switch to Lucia in the passenger seat, scrolling through the in-game phone. And when the chase begins, the system allows you to instantly switch from driving to shooting from the passenger window and back again. No interruptions, no loading times—just a seamless transition of control.

Speaking of relationships, the developers have made them a separate system—and your decisions impact a couple’s bond much more profoundly than previous honor mechanics in the studio’s games. Player behavior leaves its mark, and the consequences of your choices are deeply felt.

Food, the gym, and sleepless nights: your lifestyle is reflected in your appearance.

Rockstar is expanding on the systems familiar from RDR2—and doing so in a big way. In GTA 6, food will affect Jason and Lucia’s weight. Working out will help you build muscle. A multi-day escape from the police, lack of sleep, or wild partying will all leave their mark on their appearance. The studio wants the player’s lifestyle to be literally visible on the protagonists’ bodies and faces.

But it’s not just a matter of “losing weight and gaining weight.” Bruises from fights, fatigue after a sleepless night, even the condition of their clothes—everything will change. The detail we’re accustomed to in RDR2 is taken to a new level here.

How Rockstar’s most living world was created

Vice City Leonida streets

Leonida isn’t just a map drawn from photos found online. Rockstar employees spent years visiting Miami and its surrounding areas. A dedicated research team worked in the city. The creators met with ex-cons, police officers, gun dealers, club promoters—the most colorful residents of Florida—to get a feel for the atmosphere from the inside.

And these aren’t just words. The game will feature real-life prototypes, such as Brian Heder, Cal Hampton, Raul Bautista, Booby Ike, and Dre’Quan Priest. There’s also a whole fashion ecosystem: fictional brands, stores, car manufacturers—all of it functioning as part of a larger, cohesive world, not just a standalone joke.

Particular attention is paid to the Vice City music scene. Senior Vice President of Narrative Rupert Humphries cited Miami bass and the city’s contemporary artists, including Kodak Black and Sexyy Red, as reference points. Three levels of the hip-hop scene: from house parties in Overtown to clubs like Booby Trap on the River and high-end South Beach venues where a bottle of vodka costs thousands of dollars.

What Rockstar has officially confirmed and what remains rumor—the verified facts.

Given the number of leaks over the past week, it’s easy to get confused between truth and hacker fiction. Let’s take a closer look.

What’s officially confirmed (from Rockstar statements and an interview with Dazed):

  • GTA 6 releases on November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
  • The main characters are Jason Duval (a former military man and drug courier) and Lucia Caminez (just released from prison).
  • Switching between characters is seamless, in real time, with the ability to control different characters in the same scene.
  • The nutrition, training, and appearance systems are an expanded version of the mechanics from RDR2.
  • Jason and Lucia’s relationship is a separate gameplay system with consequences.
  • Vice City was created based on years of research into real-life Florida.
  • Pre-orders opened on June 25, 2026.
  • An Extended Look — August 27, 2026, on Netflix, 6 hours later on YouTube.

What remains in the realm of rumors and leaks (not confirmed by Rockstar):

  • The exact content of the gameplay footage leaked by the hacker group CyberLeek.
  • Plot details beyond the official description.
  • Whether or not a PC version will be released (only PS5 and Xbox are officially confirmed).
  • Information on possible delays — Take-Two acknowledged an 18-month delay compared to the original calendar, but the current date is November 19, 2026.

Important: Rockstar officially confirmed the authenticity of the leaked footage on August 26, but called it a “major blow to the team” and asked fans not to jump to conclusions until the official reveal on August 27.

Comparing GTA 6 and GTA 5: What will change in the game world, graphics, and mechanics?

The progress between generations is colossal. Here are the key differences, which can already be assessed from official materials and leaks:

Feature GTA 5 GTA 6
Protagonists Three separate characters (Michael, Franklin, Trevor) A couple — Jason and Lucia — with a deep relationship system
Character Switching Instant switching at any time Seamless switching in real time, even during a chase
Lifestyle Influence Minimal Eating, training, sleeping, and partying affect weight, muscle mass, and appearance
NPCs Stats with basic reactions The most detailed NPCs in the studio’s history — with unique appearance, style, and behavior
Graphics and RAGE Engine Good for its time Significant improvements to global illumination, geometry, hair, and clothing physics
Wanted Level System 5-Star New 6-Star System
Vehicle Detailing Basic Fuel gauges and engine damage indicators have been added
Crew Size ~1000 people More than twice the size of RDR2
Exploration (Research) Based on photographs Years of trips to Miami, encounters with locals, cops, and criminals

Opinions on the initial leaks were divided: some viewers said the physics, shooting, and vehicle handling weren’t a “game changer” compared to GTA 5. But others, looking at the leaked beach footage, insisted Rockstar wasn’t lying in the trailer—the number of NPCs on screen is truly impressive, especially after GTA 5.

Community Reaction to GTA 6 Leaks: What Players and Streamers Are Saying

There have been numerous leaks over the past week—a hacker going by the name CyberLeek has already published more than 10 gameplay videos. And the reaction, as expected, has exploded on social media.

What Players Are Saying:

  • Some fans are delighted—even with an outdated build, you can see how far the graphics and detail in the world have come.
  • Others are disappointed: some believe the leaked videos look like “another GTA 5 mod” rather than a next-gen game.
  • Skepticism is growing toward CyberLeek himself—many modders and analysts are inclined to believe the hacker doesn’t have a full build of the game, only clips.
  • Even Anonymous has weighed in—its official account criticized the hackers’ actions.

What streamers and influencers are saying:

  • Many major streamers have already begun analyzing the leaked videos—but they’re being careful to avoid strikes from Take-Two.
  • Some bloggers are announcing livestreams for August 27th to watch the official reveal in real time.

What’s important: Rockstar has officially commented on the leaks for the first time—and done so in a diplomatic manner. The studio acknowledged that the incident was a “serious blow” to the team, but urged fans to wait for the official reveal. The statement came almost simultaneously with a new leaked video of Jason racing through Vice City at night, with a glimpse of Lucia at the end.

When and where to watch the official GTA 6 presentation—a complete streaming guide

Rockstar has teamed up with Netflix for the first time—and it’s no joke. The presentation, titled Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, takes place tomorrow.

Date and time:

  • August 27, 2026, 10:00 PM Moscow time.
  • Other time zones: 3:00 PM ET (US Eastern Time), 9:00 PM CEST (Central Europe).

Where to watch:

  1. Exclusively on Netflix – right on the streaming service’s main page. An active subscription (any plan) is required.
  2. Free on YouTube – six hours after the premiere, that is, on August 28 at 4:00 AM Moscow time, the video will appear on the official Rockstar Games channel and on the game’s website.

Duration:

Approximately 30 minutes. This is not just a trailer, but a full-fledged extended show with gameplay footage, world details, and developer commentary.

Important: The first six hours of the content will be available only to Netflix subscribers. Pirated recordings will inevitably appear, but Take-Two is renowned for its aggressive copyright protection—social media and channels that post content before the exclusive period expires will face DMCA strikes and bans. It’s best to wait for the official release.

The scale of GTA 6 is impressive. The Rockstar team working on the game is more than twice as large as the team that created RDR2. One office is dedicated almost exclusively to NPCs. Even professional racers are working on the vehicle handling model. And the developers make no secret of their enormous expectations. But, as Rob Nelson emphasized, they’re putting the most pressure on themselves. All to create a world players will want to spend years in.
