It’s a strange sight: a studio that spent decades perfecting one franchise suddenly having to relearn the basics from scratch. That’s exactly what’s happening with Game Freak. Their debut action RPG, Beast of Reincarnation, launched to plenty of complaints about its technical state, and now the first major update has landed — patch 1.0.7. It’s rolling out on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, including the Xbox Game Pass version.

What’s New in Update 1.0.7
The changelog reads like a studio tackling problems on every front at once, not just patching a single issue. The camera got real attention — both during exploration and combat it now behaves far more predictably, which matters a lot in a genre where camera positioning can literally decide whether you dodge an attack or eat it.
The interface got some love too: text is now larger, and the interact button can finally be remapped. Small stuff, sure, but these are exactly the details that decide whether a game feels comfortable to play from the couch with a controller.
There’s also a fix for a narrative bug: some character dialogues used to be able to trigger multiple times in a single in-game day, breaking the illusion of a living world. Now they’re capped at once per day.
Key changes in patch 1.0.7:
-
Camera stability improved during both combat and exploration
-
Cutscenes now default to Performance mode — no more forced 24 FPS (the old mode can still be toggled back on manually)
-
Boss balance reworked across all difficulty levels, along with regular enemies on Normal
-
Fixed bugs related to settings not saving, image scaling, V-Sync, and button icons
-
Larger interface text and remappable interact button
Why Boss Balance and Cutscene Framerate Actually Matter
The cutscene framerate issue deserves special mention. Previously, cinematics were locked to 24 FPS no matter which performance mode players had selected on console — an annoying detail that broke the sense of smoothness between gameplay and story sequences. Performance mode now applies there as well, though fans of the more cinematic look can switch back to the old behavior in settings.
The boss and Normal-difficulty enemy rebalancing isn’t random either: complaints about unfair difficulty are a common growing pain for studios tackling action RPG combat for the first time, especially after years of turn-based battles.
Game Freak has already teased what’s coming next — support for DLSS 4/4.5 and AMD FSR 4, along with further technical fixes. That suggests 1.0.7 isn’t meant to be the finish line but rather a foundation for further performance improvements aimed at players with high-end GPUs.
If you shelved Beast of Reincarnation earlier because of camera complaints or save-related bugs, now’s a reasonable time to jump back in — the technical foundation has clearly improved. If you’re chasing maximum framerates through DLSS or FSR, though, it’s worth waiting for the next patches: upscaler support hasn’t arrived yet.
