The Battlefield 6 developers have once again displeased the community. After the release of patch 1.4.1.5, which was billed as a minor update with quality-of-life improvements, players discovered an unexpected and unannounced change: the ability to create public and private matches in Rush mode was removed from the game.
The update was released on August 4 at 8:00 UTC and was primarily aimed at technical improvements: fixing crashes on GeForce RTX graphics cards (especially the 50 series), smoothing sniper rifle aiming, eliminating duplicate reticle, and a number of other fixes. Additionally, the ability to “like” content was added to Portal on consoles.
But Rush—one of the most beloved modes by fans, a regular feature in the series since the first Battlefield: Bad Company—was quietly removed from user searches. Battlefield Studios did not explain the reasons. The mode in the new game was already far from ideal, and players had accumulated complaints, but such a radical, unannounced decision sparked a wave of outrage.
Some hope the developers have heeded the criticism and are preparing a major rework of Rush. We’ll just have to watch developments and wait for official statements.

How do I launch Rush through Portal in Battlefield 6 now?
Formally, Rush has disappeared from user searches—that doesn’t mean it’s completely unplayable. There is a workaround through Portal, albeit with limitations.
Portal in Battlefield 6 is a tool for creating custom servers and modes. To launch something similar to Rush:

Go to the main menu and select “Community” in the lower left corner of the screen.

Click “My Experience” to find a created server.

If you want to create your own, go to Portal Builder. There you can customize the rules, maps, number of players, and other parameters.
An important limitation: the Custom Search in the main menu, which previously allowed you to find Assault matches, no longer supports this mode. In Portal, you can create a custom mode with similar mechanics—assaulting points, capturing, and defending. However, there is no longer a preset “Assault” preset.
Another caveat: when trying to create a server in Portal, you sometimes get an error stating “the global game quota has been exceeded”—there may not be enough free slots for new servers. So if it doesn’t work the first time, try again later.
Playing against bots in custom matches in Portal also works—you can set up a server, fill it with bots, and play the mode without any problems. Experience is awarded for such matches, but with limitations—the developers have long been combating EXP farming through bots.
Rush’s removal is part of a wave of playlist changes
Rush’s removal isn’t an isolated incident. Battlefield Studios has been actively revamping its playlists and modes recently.
In the open beta, for example, Rush was only available with the Open Weapon system, which already sparked some discontent. Among the modes featured in the beta playlists were King of the Hill and Squad Deathmatch. Both of these modes have now either been removed from rotation or are only available as part of limited-time events.
The official playlists at launch featured eight modes: Conquest, Breakthrough, Domination, King of the Hill, Rush, Escalation, Squad Deathmatch, and Team Deathmatch. But the reality is that some of them are no longer found in user searches—only through Portal or within specific playlists.
The developers are apparently testing different formats. Season 4, which launched on July 21st, focused on naval gameplay, the Tsuru Reef map, and a remake of Wake Island. And on August 18th, they promise a full-fledged event featuring the film Top Gun: Maverick, featuring an assault on an aircraft carrier.
So, removing Assault from searches could be either a temporary measure (the mode is being reworked) or part of a more comprehensive playlist restructuring. There are no official comments yet—only speculation and fans’ hopes.
