Mojang developers have moved away from “Chaos Cube,” the previous update, which focused on caves and dangers. Now, look up, into the forests. And it looks like autumn has settled in.

What will be added to the new Spotted Forest biome?

The Spotted Forest was shown off at Minecraft Live during TwitchCon. This new biome looks like a postcard from the middle of nowhere in October: poplars with orange, yellow, and red foliage, the ground covered in fallen leaves, red bushes, and brown mushrooms. Classic coziness.

Poplars aren’t just decorative. Their wood can be used to make planks and slabs with a warm gray hue. A nice touch for builders tired of oak and birch.

But the most interesting thing is the abandoned camps between the trees. This is a new structure: a tent made of woolen steps (yes, another new block), chests, or barrels filled with loot. And there’s also a ready-made place to spend the night. You don’t have to dig a classic 3×2 burrow to wait out the night. Just go in, lie down, and survive.

And here’s the good news: there are no aggressive mobs in the Spotted Forest. For example, I still fondly remember the pale garden and Skrypun from the 2024 update—but sometimes you just want to wander around, not fight off horror games.

True, Mojang might add some kind of monster for the release. Then I’ll have to take back my words about a “relaxing biome.” But for now, the Spotted Forest looks like the perfect place for those tired of the eternal survival game.

Minecraft Spotted Forest Release Date

There’s a twist: the Spotted Forest was shown, but you won’t be able to play it yet. The biome is in a very early stage. Mojang promised to add it to test builds closer to summer. Then we’ll see how relaxing it is.

By the way, the developers might have some other surprises in store. Personally, I think a raccoon would fit perfectly into such an autumn biome. But that’s just me thinking out loud.

While players wait, Mojang has launched a building contest—A Minecraft Movie Squared. The winning entry could be featured in the film or at least included in the end credits. Sounds like a chance to get some serious exposure.

A Minecraft Movie Squared Building Contest

The rules are strict but fair:

  • Download the contest map from the Minecraft Marketplace.
  • Build in a 16x16x32 space.
  • Use only pre-approved blocks and mobs.

The theme is your choice: plains, taiga, wasteland, or frozen ocean. One building per person. And yes, you must be at least sixteen years old to participate. Those under sixteen won’t be allowed.

The update will be released later in 2026—the exact date hasn’t been set yet.

All Confirmed Chaos Cubed Changes

Mojang Studios rolled out the first details of Chaos Cubed live on stage at Minecraft Live during the TwitchCon event. We’ve compiled a single summary of everything the developers have officially confirmed—without dubious dataminer leaks or wild YouTube theories. It looks like the update will be atmospheric.

Full List of New Blocks and Patch Mechanics

Biome: Dappled Forest. (Confirmed). This location is still in early production. Players will be able to experience it in test builds in the summer of 2026.

  • Tree: Poplar. (Confirmed). Grows exclusively in the new biome. The foliage will delight the eye with autumnal hues from yellow to deep red.
  • Building Materials: Poplar Planks and Slabs. (Confirmed). They have a pleasant warm gray color—builders will definitely appreciate this palette.
  • New block type: Wool Stairs. (Confirmed). This mechanic was teased during the presentation in the tent designs. A rather unusual decorative solution.
  • Structure: Abandoned Camp. (Confirmed). A ready-made shelter for the first night of survival, consisting of a tent and a chest (or barrel) with loot. Very convenient.
  • Location decoration. (Confirmed). The patchy forest will be covered with fallen leaves and decorated with red bushes and brown mushrooms.
  • Hostile mobs. (Not announced). No one was shown during the stream, but the developers may well add a few monsters closer to release.
  • Release window. Chaos Cubed will reach Java and Bedrock players in 2026. The exact date is still up in the air.

Of course, this is just a preview of the content. Before the full release, the developers will likely tinker with a ton of mechanics: some will be cut after testing, while others will be deliberately left unmentioned. Remember the massive Caves & Cliffs update. It was filled with new features right up until version 1.18—and the Spotted Forest has every chance of following exactly the same path. We’ll only see the true picture of camp loot, hidden blocks, and mob behavior once the biome is fully featured in the latest snapshots.
