What to choose in 007 First Light: abstract painting or martial arts poster - Image 1

In the “New Home” story mission for 007 First Light, James Bond arbitrates a dispute over interior design—choosing between an abstract painting and a poster. The short answer: click randomly. This design choice has no gameplay consequences, no missed checkpoints, or unlocked achievements (those seeking the “A Legacy” trophy in Spycraft can breathe a sigh of relief). But for fun, let’s analyze the partners’ reactions.

Painting or Poster: The Consequences of Choice in 007 First Light

After scattering things in the corners of our room, we head to Cressida’s kitchen to start our next mission. That’s when this amusing domestic conflict arises. Fellow 00 agents can’t share a wall, so you have the final say.

Here are how the characters react to each decision:

  • Abstract painting (A button / Square / X). Our spy will launch into a philosophical tirade about the “explosive and uncontrollable aesthetics” that supposedly inspires him. Cressida will be imbued with your sense of beauty. Monroe, meanwhile, will sigh sadly and drag the martial arts poster back to his lair.
  • Martial Arts Poster (D / Circle / B button). Bond will suddenly use an art critic’s term, praising “negative space.” Cressida will immediately quip that Monroe can now throw his dirty shoes in his bedroom. The rejected abstraction will vanish from the game forever.

How will this affect the future? Absolutely nothing. Yes, you’ll pop into this lair a few more times during the campaign to catch your breath. But the unfortunate kitchen decor will turn into a dull texture. No NPC will comment on it again. Basically, it’s up to your personal taste—or your liking for a specific partner (Monroe or Cressida). This topic will not come up again in the plot.
