Subnautica 2 was released on May 14th at 11:00 New York time, and in just an hour, the sequel shot into the top charts with nearly 460,000 players online. That’s almost nine times higher than the first game’s record (around 51,000). Unknown Worlds’ ocean sandbox clearly resonated with audiences.

As in the original, progression is tied to blueprints. Without them, you can’t unlock crafting or build a base. Blueprints are scattered throughout containers, sunken outposts, and module wrecks—in short, all over the seabed. We’ve compiled all the confirmed locations so you can spend time exploring, not mindlessly circling.

How to find all blueprints in Subnautica 2 and use the scanner

The scanner is your best friend. Aim at objects in old colonies, abandoned bases, and other points of interest. Each successful scan adds a recipe to the “Fabricator,” and everything found is then stored in the “Blueprints” tab. The further you sail, the rarer and more hidden blueprints you find. The system is designed to encourage you to actually explore the ocean, not just follow markers.

Subnautica 2 scanner gameplay

By the way, blueprints in Subnautica 2 are divided into many categories. Here’s a full list of what you’ll need to unlock:

  • Base Materials
  • Prepared Meals
  • Cooked Food
  • Equipment
  • Tools
  • Consumables
  • Electronics
  • Base Parts
  • Furniture and Decorative Furniture
  • Power
  • Manufacturing
  • Partitions
  • Lighting
  • Storage
  • Utilities
  • Posters
  • Base Systems
  • Transport
  • Ingots
  • Recycling
  • Biofuel

In short, there’s nothing to do in Subnautica 2 without a scanner and patience. But if you know where to go, your progress will go much faster. We’ll break down all the coordinates and clues below.

Tools are literally everything in Subnautica 2. Without them, you can’t mine resources, scan samples, or see a thing in dark caves. Luckily, basic blueprints are right under your nose—in the starting area and at the first outposts. But advanced equipment is hidden in dangerous biomes and deep-sea locations. We’ve compiled the coordinates and recipes so you don’t have to swim blind.

Subnautica 2 survival tools

Where to find tool blueprints and crafting coordinates

First, the essentials. The Flashlight and Builder should appear within the first few hours. From there, it becomes increasingly important.

How to craft the Flashlight and where to find fragments

Crafting: 2 Titanium, 1 Quartz, 1 Common Battery.

Look in a small cave directly below the Escape Pod. The second option is 32 meters east of the pod.

Where is the Builder and how to unlock the recipe

Required: 2 Titanium, 1 Glass, 1 Common Battery, 1 Copper Wire.

Location: 95 meters southeast of the pod, in a crate near the Welcome Center sign. Alternatively, 83 meters there, under the hole in the Welcome Center.

Sonic Resonator coordinates and location in Old Habitat

Recipe: 2 Titanium Ingots, 2 Lead, 1 Common Battery, 1 Wiring Harness.

Swim 407 meters north from the capsule to the right of the Old Habitat entrance. The second fragment is inside the next room in Old Habitat (398 meters north).

Wave Generator

Requires: 1 Silver, 1 Lubricant, 1 Common Battery, 1 Wiring Harness.

There are three locations here. The first is 203 meters northeast, a small crate near some debris. The second is 123 meters northeast, on a table inside a small cave. The third is 126 meters, a crate near the ruined outpost.

Improved Flippers

Crafting: 1 Common Flippers, 1 Mesh Fiber, 2 Conductive Crystals.

The search is more difficult: there’s a hatch in the abandoned base in “Alien Ruins”—a thick cable leads from it to a table. There are also platforms at a 165-degree angle from the same base. And a chest is right under these platforms.

All base module blueprints and power system construction

The base in Subnautica 2 is not just a place to live, but a fully-fledged production center. You’ll find some modules quickly, but rare ones require you to venture into dangerous areas.

Subnautica 2 base building

Bio-Growth Bed

3 Titanium, 1 Glass, 1 Copper Wire. Coordinates: 276 meters northeast of the capsule, inside Camp One—just behind the dining chair.

Where to find Bioreactor and Cicada Wreck fragments

2 Titanium Ingots, 2 Copper Ingots. Three options: 386 meters northeast, inside the Cicada Wreck (Lander Garage), next to a tadpole fragment. Or 379 meters north, inside Old Habitat. Or 400 meters east, in a large metal box.

Dining Chair – 2 Titanium. Same place, in Camp One (276 meters northeast).

Dining Table – 3 Titanium, 1 Glass. First location: 253 meters northeast, Camp One. Second: 386 meters north, Old Habitat. Third: 399 meters north, also Old Habitat.

Lab Chair – 2 Titanium. Location: 1360 meters east of the capsule, inside Needler Nest. It’s a long way, but worth it.

Energy Storage – 3 Titanium, 1 Germanium Ingot. Two locations: 1247 meters east, Rosetta Stone tower south of Alien Ruins. And 457 meters southeast, inside Hot Base.

Energy Transmitter – 1 Titan, 1 Copper. 389 meters northeast, inside a crate at the top of the abandoned outpost.

Searchlight – 1 Titan, 2 Copper. First location: 1248 meters east, Rosetta Stone tower (near the accumulator). Second location: 454 meters southeast, to the left of the Hot Base entrance.

Thermal Power Plant

3 Titan, 3 Copper, 3 Gold. Swim approximately 492 meters southeast of the capsule, depth approximately 308 meters – inside the cave next to the Blackbox – Zip.

Survival Tips and Priority Crafting for Beginners

Here’s a helpful tip: grab the Flashlight and Builder right away. They’re found in safe locations and will significantly speed up your start. Next, you can aim for the Wave Generator and Sonic Resonator—these will require entering high-risk areas, but the rewards are worth it.

Don’t turn off your scanner. Even the most inconspicuous crates and debris can contain a rare blueprint. If you follow our list of coordinates, progress will flow smoothly—no chaotic wandering.

Errors when searching for blueprints and how to quickly unlock recipes

Are you used to convenient minimaps? Forget it. In Subnautica 2, you’ll have to navigate the old-fashioned way. Accidentally stumbled upon a gorgeous abandoned base and decided to return there later with an empty inventory? Bad idea. Without a beacon, you’ll spend 3-4 times as much time wandering through the same biomes. Mark it immediately. Always.

Moving on. The cornerstone of local progression is how to obtain recipes. Players often vacuum the bottom of areas where the desired item isn’t physically available. There are three completely different unlocking paths in the game:

Three ways to obtain recipes in Subnautica 2

  • Reusable scan. Aim the device at pieces of debris. (This is how the Builder, Bioreactor, and Tadpole are looted.)
  • Data Cards. The entire item is obtained in one click. The same Moon Pool can be found in this form in Tailing Village.
  • Automatic unlock. Technologies are awarded for story-related actions. The NoA Smart Terminal activates automatically after two scans of any Habitat-type modules. Before a raid, check the blueprint type to avoid running around in circles.

Let’s talk about scanning. The developers have thrown in a not-so-obvious catch: one click is almost always not enough. To obtain the basic Builder, you’ll need to find 2-3 pieces. The menu barely fills the progress bar. Newbies happily click the scanner once and head home, only to be surprised by an empty workbench. Check the interface immediately.

It’s worth noting that ignoring already-examined fragments is not a good idea. Re-analyzing them grants 1 free titanium (or a specialized resource). A solid run can easily yield 10-15 extra materials. A small thing, but it cuts a big dent in the initial grind.

Never skip story pings. When NoA picks up a signal and drags you to the Blackbox, drop everything. Audio logs and critical components are guaranteed to be there. Putting these markers aside for later? You’ll be left without proper gear. You need a Standard Air Tank and a Sonic Resonator before you venture into deep caves.

Subnautica 2 Blackbox mission

And one last thing. Diving without a clear goal is certain death (or wasted time). Filling up slots with random quartz along the way for technology is foolish. You’ll run out of space the second you find the coveted crate. Focus on one primary objective. Leave all the extraneous junk behind.
