Atacamite in Subnautica 2 is a unique resource. It’s not needed in most recipes, but without it, you won’t be able to max out your oxygen tank or unlock the second depth upgrade for the Tadpole. This is where things get really serious.

This resource is for mid- to late-game exploration, so don’t look for it near the escape pod. You’ll first have to reach the alien ruins, and before that, explore the Tadpole depot. Even once you’re among the ruins, Atacamite can’t be obtained in the usual way: you’ll need to find a couple more materials to craft the necessary upgrades and even reach the deposits.

The best places to farm Atacamite

The problem is that all the veins are deeper than the basic Tadpole can dive. Two options: either upgrade your vehicle or leave it at 250 meters and continue on your own. The second option is suicide, especially near alien ruins. So, level up the Tadpole.

Atacamite mining location

By the way, Atacamite is easily confused with Titan—they look similar. Keep your eyes peeled.

Best farming spots:

Atacamite in the Flower Heart location

Coordinates: 1770 meters due east of the escape pod, depth 455 meters.

Swim past the tower that extends toward the surface until you hit a huge dome. Scan the center and discover it’s a Hot Stream. Below it, on the Titanic Rock Borer, is the Flower Heart. Nearby, right on the ground, are Atacamite deposits.

The resource is on the outer edge of the dome.

Flower Heart resource deposits

1465 meters east of the pod, the depth is shallower—300 meters.

There, near the large dome, are several deposits lying right on the sand. The landmark is a research table with a magazine called “Tuba: A New Recipe” and the opportunity to scan upgraded flippers. Don’t miss it.

Preparing for Deep-Deep Resource Mining

To harvest Atakamite, you need a Sonic Resonator—keep it on your hotbar. It’s best to empty your inventory: trudging that far from your base with your pockets full is a dubious pleasure. If you can upgrade your Tadpole’s storage (modifications or chassis), do so—you won’t regret it.

Atacamite Harvesting Mistakes in Subnautica 2

The base vehicle will be your undoing. The stock Tadpole stalls dead at 250 meters. The coveted deposits near the Flower Heart are located significantly lower, at 455 meters. Trying to swim across this difference among the aggressive local fauna is tantamount to losing all your collected loot. The Depth Module Mk. 1 is absolutely essential here (no other options).

Tadpole depth upgrade

The tool in your backpack isn’t working. You’ve descended to the bottom, found a vein, and are staring at it. Classic. The Sonic Resonator must be on your hotbar. If this thing is lying around somewhere in the depths of your inventory, it will be physically impossible to chip the crystal. Be sure to check your slots before leaving the base.

Hoarder syndrome. Traveling about 1,770 meters one way with your pockets full is a highly ineffective tactic. Throw away your recycled junk and spare fish. Your backpack should be practically empty. Take only an oxygen tank, the resonator itself, and a little space for backup.

Blind mining. In the area of alien ruins, precious atacamite is easily mistaken for regular titanium. Both resources generate as massive crystalline growths. Look exclusively for greenish-blue formations with a copper sheen, completely ignoring the gray-silver chunks. The best option is to obsessively scan the area before each click until you get used to it.

Diving without a plan “B.” At depths of 300–455 meters, oxygen burns out much faster than usual. A life-saving air bubble in the hotbar will pull you from the bottom if your transport is destroyed by predators or you get lost in caves. Without it, the slightest force majeure instantly turns into a respawn screen.

Mistake Fatal Consequence Solution
Collecting titanium blindly You fill slots with useless junk Scan the rock before hitting it
Resonator hidden in inventory You cannot extract the resource Place the item on a hotkey
Starting with full pockets You bring back scraps instead of a proper haul Empty your storage before heading out
No Mk. 1 module on the Tadpole Guaranteed death from pressure Craft the upgrade in advance
Ignoring the air bubble Suffocation after the smallest delay Keep 1 item on quick access
