Imagine, there was some wild flaw in Dota 2 again, which was discovered not by someone there, but by Denis ‘sikle’ Lerman himself, a top analyst from Team Spirit, known to everyone as sikle. In general, the point there is the most strange behavior of the ultimate Lich called “Chain Frost”, which suddenly stops working as it should. Apparently, if the enemy heroes are standing inside the Smoke Screen — this is the same “cloud” Riki — and he bought Aghanim’s Shard, then the ice ball simply refuses to bounce off them, can you imagine?
Sikle, along the way, got deep into the game files and rolled out this insider in his Telegram channel, calling the situation “another delicious paste from the code.” According to him, and this is really important to understand, this problem occurs exclusively with the Smoke Screen, while other abilities with bounce mechanics work quite adequately. In order to somehow make Chain Frost jump at targets, you will probably have to put an Ice Spire somewhere nearby, then the bounces will go at least from the ice block, which in itself is already a crutch.
Sikle discovered a strange interaction between Lich and Smoke Screen in Dota 2
To be honest, Denis did not find out the exact reason for this bug, but he has an extremely logical assumption. It seems that Aghanim’s Shard on Riki puts a special block_targeting status on units in smoke — and here’s the most interesting thing — the rules of which are written crookedly in Valve’s code. As a result, the game reads the heroes as hidden units, and Chain Frost simply “loses” them, which, I must say, breaks the files completely.
By the way, this is far from the first jamb in the current meta, because recently Dota 2 fans found another crazy bug related to Anti-Mage. There, the Magebane’s Mirror aspect allows, apparently, to instantly send a Spectre to the tavern for one shot of Counterspell — it sounds like complete absurdity, really. That problem was first burned in a regular public place, then, of course, rechecked in the lobby and complaints immediately flew in the direction of Valve — we are waiting for Gabe and the company to fix it.
We’ve been seeing more bugs being discovered lately. What do you think?
