When it seems that everything is just beginning, fate makes its own adjustments to fate. Shopify Rebellion, a team whose name has become a symbol of work, talent and skills in the Dota 2 eSports arena, suddenly pauses and announces its departure. After joyful victories, sorrow and thousands of hours of struggle, the organization announced the disbandment of the team. What is behind this decision? And what awaits the players, fans and SR itself now? In this article – answers to the main questions.

Dota 2 Shopify Rebellion Roster Disbanded: Reasons and What’s Next

The esports organization Shopify Rebellion has made the difficult decision to pause its activities in the Dota 2 scene, which has resulted in the disbandment of its competitive roster. Co-founder Dario “TLO” Wünsch took the time to comment on this significant change, expressing his thoughts and the reasoning behind the organization’s choice. This move marks a notable shift for the team and its fans.

When we first assembled our Dota 2 roster in 2022, marking the beginning of Shopify Rebellion, it felt like a monumental leap forward. We were navigating uncharted waters, learning to walk before we could run as an organization. Dota, with its rich history and passionate community, became a cornerstone of our development. For me, personally, as someone who spent countless hours in my teenage years immersed in the original Dota on WC3, this game holds a deeply personal significance. The memories from TI12 in 2023 stand out as some of the brightest highlights of my esports journey. The enthusiasm of the Dota community is incredibly contagious and has fueled our ambition.

I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has supported us throughout these years. I know that being a fan of the SR Dota 2 team hasn’t always been an easy ride. The frustrations and heartaches you experienced while cheering for us were deeply felt on our end as well. We often found ourselves in promising positions, close to making significant strides in tournaments, only to have hope slip away time and again. Each setback taught us valuable lessons that shaped our growth.

Our struggles were never due to a lack of effort. The dedication, hard work, and passion that our players, coaches, and staff poured into this endeavor were nothing short of inspiring. They committed everything to this project, and I am immensely thankful for their relentless efforts. Despite all the energy and enthusiasm invested in competitive Dota, we ultimately fell short of achieving the standards we had set for ourselves. This realization weighs heavily on my heart.

With a heavy heart, I must share that we’ve made the difficult decision to temporarily step back from Dota 2. We are parting ways with our entire roster, allowing them the freedom to explore new opportunities in their careers. I genuinely hope that each of them finds incredible new teams where they can continue to shine, bringing their remarkable talent and dedication to fresh environments. Each player is uniquely gifted, and I have no doubt they will thrive wherever they go.

I believe this isn’t a goodbye, but rather “until we meet again.” While we take this much-needed pause, I will remain a devoted follower of pro Dota. You can count on me to cheer for my favorite players as a fan during TI and beyond. The love I have for this game and its community will never wane.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to our manager Rob and every player who has been part of this journey. Each of you has contributed to our story in meaningful ways. BuLba, you’ve been with us through every step of the way—I appreciate you immensely, and I doubt anyone loves Dota more than you do. Your passion has been a guiding light for all of us.

As we look to the future, I wish you all immense success in your upcoming endeavors, wherever life may lead you. Each new path is an opportunity for growth and discovery, and I can’t wait to see where your journeys take you next.

In December 2022, Shopify Rebellion officially announced their debut Dota 2 roster, which marked the beginning of their bright journey in the world of professional esports. Since their inception, the team has consistently participated in major tournaments, where they demonstrated a high level of play, resilience, and a thirst for victory.

Their successes were especially memorable at The Lima Major 2023, where the team took an honorable fourth place, as well as at DreamLeague Season 21, where they won silver, confirming their status as one of the strongest teams in the scene.

Their most recent appearance was at Riyadh Masters 2025, where the competition was serious. As a result, the team finished in the range from 13th to 16th place, failing to make it to The International 2025. This defeat left fans wondering: will the roster survive and what awaits Shopify Rebellion in the future? Whether this will be a new chapter or the end of the story – time will tell.
