Publisher SNK Corporation has effectively decided to shake up the fighting game industry—the company has officially announced the schedule of qualifying rounds for its massive SNK World Championship 2026 event. This won’t just be a series of matches, but a full-fledged battle across multiple disciplines: you’ll find the latest FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves, the timeless The King of Fighters XV, and even more unique titles like SAMURAI SHODOWN and ART OF FIGHTING 3.

The season, incidentally, will open in the US—Frosty Faustings XVIII kicks off in Illinois on January 29. The marathon will last almost until the end of next year, with the final stop being Thunderstruck 2026 in Mexico on October 10.

The geography, it must be said, is impressive—the developers have literally covered the entire globe. There will be the Californian Genesis X3, the legendary Evo Japan 2026, and even the Brazilian Kick Tournament in Rio de Janeiro. However, some events—for example, the Argentinian Ragnarok 2026—have no specific dates yet. The company will apparently be adding information to the roadmap as they go, so you’ll have to keep a close eye on the updates.

King of Fighters XV Meta and Technical Analysis

The start of King of Fighters XV’s fourth season essentially overlaps with the latest 2026 patch—and frankly, this has completely changed the game. The developers have gone through such a rigorous balance adjustment that old tier lists can safely be thrown out. We’ve analyzed the current meta so you can understand who to bet on in the early rounds.

Current character tier list after the 2026 update

The 2026 update appears to have put an end to the dominance of aggressive rushdown styles, favoring mobile zoners.

  • S-tier: Kyo Kusanagi and Terry Bogard currently reign supreme here. Kyo, incidentally, now deals 12% more damage in combos thanks to his 75R acceleration—quite powerful, to be sure. And Terry is now practically invulnerable mid-fight thanks to his increased bars in MAX mode.
  • A-tier: Iori Yagami and Mai Shiranui have arrived here. Iori, incidentally, lost her stagger on Fireballs, but she’s still holding her own thanks to her jumping attacks that deal chip damage. Mai, meanwhile, received a teleport buff, making it much easier for her to corner enemies.
  • B-tier: Kula Diamond and Robert Garcia hang out here. Kula, to be honest, was hit pretty hard by the nerfs, but thanks to her new hit points in the neutral position, she can still fight back.
Tier Characters Key Changes Tournament Winrate (Pre → Post Patch)
S Kyo, Terry Combo damage buff, MAX gauge improvements 58% → 65%
A Iori, Mai Teleport buff, improved neutral control 52% → 59%
B Kula, Robert Icon nerf, neutral adjustments 48% → 51%
C Andy, Blue Mary Reduced pressure, weaker stagger options 45% → 42%
D Ralf, Clark Minor and ineffective tweaks 40% → 38%

An analysis of statistics confirms the numbers: S-tier currently accounts for approximately 70% of all sets in the pro scene.

Balance and mechanics changes analysis

Patch 2.41+ essentially affected 80% of all characters. Overdrives took the brunt of the impact—Vega and Angel lost approximately 15% of their popularity due to this. However, it seems a window of opportunity has opened for Chizuru Kagura: her reflections now punish enemies for any recovery error.

Buffs for underdogs like Joe Higashi are also encouraging—his hooks can now be linked into super moves without costing a meter, which, by the way, significantly changes the playstyle toward constant pressure (poke-heavy). If you plan to play against top-tier heroes, consider putting Kula against Terry to freeze zones and catch him out in MAX mode.

Hero Pick Tips and Positioning Tactics

For mid-level players, Kyo is the ideal choice right now. His 2LK > 214K > 75R combination can take 35% of your health without using a meter—perfect for quickly clearing out your opponent. By the way, Mai is a better choice against Iori: her Fan skill catches the 236B cooldown perfectly and allows you to easily push your opponent to the corner.

Also, practice your spacing. In the new meta, Terry wins most 50/50 situations. Watch replays from EVO 2025; you can clearly see how Kyo’s Flame Column can now be countered by a dash—this essentially breaks down any defense.

SNK World Championship 2026 Points and Prize Pool

As for the prize pool, SNK hasn’t skimped on the money—the prize pool for the season will be $4.1 million (about £3.04 million). They will be distributed the same way as in 2025: between qualifiers and the finals.

An interesting feature this year is the points system. All player progress is essentially converted into currency: 1 point equals 1 US dollar. All tournaments are now strictly ranked by tier.

  • Legends: The very top, with 8,000 points awarded for a win.
  • Masters 1-3: More down-to-earth categories with smaller payouts.

In short, we’re in for a whole year of nonstop fighting madness. This is the fourth season of the World Championship, and the best players on the planet will soon be at each other’s throats for a spot in the Grand Finals. The full list of all activities is already posted on the official SNK website—go and check it out if you want to stay up to date.
