The organizers of the Champion of Champions Tour have released an ambitious plan for the European CS2 season in 2026.

CCT Europe Tournament Roadmap for 2026

The GRID tournament operator will hold a total of 34 events, which is encouraging. The tournament grid covers the Contenders and Challengers levels, forming a full-fledged ladder for beginners to progress. To be honest, it is this structure that gives semi-professional mixes a real chance to reach serious trophies.

The first stage is Contenders. Here, 16 teams from the open qualifiers are cut for $2,500, with the top two teams going to the Challengers. Then the stakes rise — in the Challengers series, they will be joined by 14 more teams invited through Valve’s regional ratings (VRS). At stake here is already $ 5,000 and tickets to the elite of CCT Europe.

The impact of the CCT Series on the Valve Regional Standards Rating

The CCT series tournaments have long worked as an ideal elevator for those who wanted to break into the elite through Valve Regional Stands (VRS). Now, by the way, the balance of power has changed significantly due to Valve’s harsh decisions, but the direct connection with RMR invitations and fat slots at major events is still a critical factor for the Challengers participants.

Let’s look at why CCTS used to actually “feed” VRS glasses and how this mechanism functioned until recent updates.

The VRS system and the importance of ranking for teams in CS2

VRS is Valve’s official digital barometer for ranking CS2 lineups by major regions: Europe, America, and Asia. Points are awarded here for successes at approved events over the past 6 months. The formula, by the way, is quite tricky.: she chews up the strength of beaten enemies, the size of the prize pool and the “freshness” of victories — old achievements quickly turn into a pumpkin.

Why would the teams do that? It’s simple — high positions in this top give you direct access to the RMR (Regional Major Rankings). This is, in fact, the only legal way to get to the Major without the grueling hell of open qualifications. Rating points also directly affect seeding, which helps attract sponsors and brings Challenger-level teams out of the shadows and into the media field.

The relationship of CCT tournaments with VRS points and RMR invites

Effect of VRS on the CS2 pro ecosystem

In the old days, CCT events (including Challengers and Champions) had ranked status, where teams literally vacuumed Valve’s glasses. The top spots provided a powerful boost in the regional rankings of Europe and America. CCT, in truth, offered a “shortcut”: you could fly from the open qualifiers to the RMR invite, bypassing the endless ladder of ESEA leagues from the Open to the Challenger.

Top 5 VRS teams (02/16/2026)

Team Valve Ranking Points
FURIA 1951
Team Vitality 1940
Team Falcons 1939
Team Spirit 1892
Natus Vincere 1849

True, these guys have accumulated points in RMR and Tier-1 tournaments, but the foundation for such leaps is often laid at lower levels.

For example, in the second season of CCT Online, teams like Passion UA or BetBoom Team confidently entered the top 32 thanks to VRS points. This guaranteed them a place in the seed for the Major selections, because the invitations there were distributed strictly according to Valve’s list — usually these are 6-8 coveted slots per region.

However, on January 17, 2025, Valve dealt a crushing blow by stripping CCT of this status. The reason, to be honest, is due to problems with the invite system: the organizers often scored on VRS when selecting participants. The sad result is the unranked category. Now CCT points don’t drip, and ambitious rosters have to chew their way through the ESL Pro League or the new BLAST Bounty system, which stretches the path to fame for many months.

Format and prize pool of the CCT Europe final stage

The main event of CCT Europe will be large-scale. The 36-team format includes Play-In, Group and playoff stages, and the prize pool is a solid $25,000. Contenders competitions will start on February 21, the first pool of matches is scheduled for March 7-15, and this series will finish at the end of October. The main tournament, it is worth noting, will begin on April 27 with Play-In matches.

Since its launch in 2022, the CCT project has established itself as the main hub for tier-2 teams in Europe and the world. This season will culminate in the global finals in Portugal, where the top 8 teams will win $75,000 in prize money, plus another $75,000 will go to clubs and players through a revenue sharing program. In short, GRID is seriously investing in infrastructure.

It is also interesting that the operator has teamed up with New Breed Agency — this partnership integrates the LAN events of the Parken Challenger Championship (PCC) into the overall online ecosystem of CCT. In fact, we see the creation of a seamless path from fast-caps to large arenas.
