The Story of Vel'Koz
No one is certain whether Vel’Koz was the first creature of the Void to reach Runeterra, but nothing else to emerge from it since has matched his particular blend of intelligence and cold calculation. Where the rest of the Void’s spawn devour or defile whatever they touch, Vel’Koz studies it first — cataloguing Runeterra’s physical world and the strange, warlike creatures who inhabit it, on the hunt for weaknesses the Void could eventually exploit. That doesn’t make him passive. When something threatens his research, he answers directly, whether with plasma or by tearing at the fabric of the world itself. He’s flexible enough to be played at the center of a lane or alongside a carry in support, running on ordinary mana like most other mages despite everything else about him being anything but ordinary, and either way his approach to a fight follows the same logic as his approach to a subject:
- Plasma Fission — a bolt of plasma that splits into two on command or on impact, slowing and damaging whatever it hits.
- Void Rift — a rift that bursts once on arrival and again, moments later, for a second hit.
- Tectonic Disruption — a shockwave that knocks up anything close and shoves back what’s just outside it.
- Life Form Disintegration Ray — a channeled beam that tracks the cursor for several seconds, capable of finishing off any target already marked three times by his passive, Organic Deconstruction, with a burst of true damage.
The ray is also his greatest vulnerability: interrupting it with a stun, silence, or knockup denies him the very payoff his patience was built around, and his limited mobility means an opponent who catches him isolated can usually keep him that way. Vel’Koz relies on that same patience in lane, using Void Rift to clear minions while quietly accumulating stacks on an opponent, then finishing the analysis with everything else at once. Other Void-born champions, including Cho’Gath, share his origin in the Void, but none of his scientific detachment.
