The Story of Ryze
Some fights never end, and Ryze has been fighting his for longer than most nations have existed. Widely regarded as one of Runeterra’s most capable sorcerers, he carries a burden that has little to do with reputation and everything to do with what he’s sworn to prevent.
World Runes are fragments of the raw magic that shaped Runeterra out of nothing, and in the wrong hands they could unmake just as easily as they once made. Ryze spends his endless years tracking them down before anyone else can, driven not by ambition but by a clear understanding of what happens if he fails. His body has endured whatever that pursuit demands of it; his power is immense, and so, evidently, is his tolerance for punishment.
His magic reflects a mind that never stops calculating. Arcane Mastery scales his spell damage off his Bonus Mana while boosting his max Mana based on Ability Power, a feedback loop that rewards stacking one resource into the other. Overload resets its own cooldown whenever he casts another basic ability, banking runes toward a burst of Move Speed. Rune Prison traps a target in a cage that slows them, or roots them outright if they’re already marked with Flux. Spell Flux is that mark: an orb that damages one enemy and debuffs everyone nearby, opening them up to the rest of his kit. Realm Warp, his ultimate, tears open a portal that teleports nearby allies to a new location after a short delay, letting him reposition an entire fight.
A Mage who plants himself in the mid lane and draws on Mana to fuel that same feedback loop, Ryze belongs to no single nation the way most champions do — he answers to Runeterra itself, the world he’s trying to keep from tearing apart. Wanderers like Bard occupy that same unaffiliated space, chasing their own version of a duty nobody assigned them.
