The Story of Bard
Nobody in Runeterra can say with certainty where Bard came from, only that he arrived from somewhere far beyond the stars and never really left. He moves through the world as an agent of serendipity, nudging events back toward balance whenever chaos threatens to tip things too far. The songs written about him disagree on almost everything except one point: he cannot resist an artifact touched by real magical power.
He rarely travels alone. A cheerful choir of spirit meeps follows him everywhere, small helpers that make it hard to read his actions as anything but well-intentioned, however strange his methods look from the outside. Bard’s own logic is not always legible to the people he helps, but the balance he protects tends to hold together once he’s finished.
His kit mirrors that description closely:
- Traveler’s Call — the meeps that ride along with his attacks, growing stronger as he collects Chimes.
- Cosmic Binding — a missile that slows and can stun between two struck targets.
- Caretaker’s Shrine — a healing point that rewards patience by growing stronger before it’s used.
- Magical Journey — a one-way portal through terrain, open to ally and enemy alike.
- Tempered Fate — his ultimate, locking everything it touches, friend or foe, into stasis.
Even his allies note that Bard doesn’t distinguish neatly between sides when he casts that last ability, a fitting trait for a wanderer who answers to a balance bigger than any single faction, including champions like Kindred who also exist somewhat outside Runeterra’s usual conflicts.
On the Rift he’s most often slotted into the support role, occasionally mid, powered by Mana like many of Runeterra’s stranger wanderers. Other champions without a fixed homeland, such as Fiddlesticks, share that same rootless quality, though few carry it with Bard’s cheerful indifference to consequence.
