The Story of Kog'Maw
Kog’Maw did not arrive in the world so much as get expelled from it. It emerged from a decaying Void incursion in the wastelands of Icathia, a birth that left it with a caustic, ever-open mouth and very little idea of what anything around it actually was. Its solution to that ignorance is simple: gnaw and drool on whatever it encounters, treating every object and every creature as something to be tasted before it can be understood.
None of this makes Kog’Maw malicious, exactly. Where Kha’Zix hunts with calculation and Kassadin hunts out of grief, Kog’Maw simply follows its curiosity wherever it leads, and its naiveté is dangerous precisely because it never arrives wrapped in obvious hostility. A feeding frenzy from Kog’Maw is not born of hunger or hatred; it is just what happens when boundless curiosity meets something new and, as far as Kog’Maw is concerned, edible. Anyone standing nearby when that curiosity gets the better of it rarely has time to explain that they were not, in fact, food.
Its abilities are built around reach rather than subtlety. Caustic Spittle corrodes a target’s armor and magic resist while speeding up Kog’Maw’s own attacks. Bio-Arcane Barrage extends its attack range and adds a cut of the target’s maximum health as bonus damage on every hit, letting it threaten far larger creatures than its size would suggest. Void Ooze leaves a slowing trail behind a corrosive projectile, and Living Artillery, its ultimate, fires from a genuinely enormous distance, hitting harder against enemies who are already low on health. Even death does not fully stop it: the passive, Icathian Surprise, has Kog’Maw explode four seconds after dying, one last curious, careless act aimed at whoever is still standing close enough nearby to feel it. Even in death it cannot resist finding out what happens next.
