The Story of Brand
Before he was Brand, he had a name: Kegan Rodhe, a tribesman of the Freljord with companions and a place among them. What undid him was ambition, the pursuit of a World Rune, one of the legendary artifacts said to hold power beyond any single person’s right to wield.
Kegan got what he was chasing, and it cost him everything else. He turned on the people traveling with him to claim the Rune for himself, and the instant he succeeded, the man who had made that choice ceased to exist. What took his place was Brand: a body of living flame with no soul left inside it, driven by a grievance so large it doesn’t match anything a single mortal lifetime could have inflicted on him.
He roams Valoran now hunting for more Runes, and everything about how he fights carries that same escalating burn. Blaze, his passive, sets targets alight for damage over time that stacks up to three times, refunding him mana on a kill and detonating once it maxes out. Sear launches a fireball that stuns anything already ablaze. Pillar of Flame drops a delayed blast that punishes burning targets further. Conflagration spreads its damage to nearby enemies, doubling that spread if the target is already on fire. Pyroclasm, his ultimate, bounces repeatedly between Brand and nearby enemies, chaining the same punishment across an entire group. Every piece of it reflects the same idea, contact with Brand compounds, the same way one bad decision compounded into the end of Kegan Rodhe. He’s occasionally seen near other Freljordian figures like Braum and Aurora, though revenge leaves him little room for company.
He’s fought today as a mid-lane or support mage, still drawing on Mana the way any Freljordian caster does, though little else about him resembles the tribe he abandoned. Even Gnar, native to the same frozen region, keeps more of his original self intact than Brand ever will again.
