Master Yi moves at 355 base speed, twenty more than Kayle, and Highlander raises it further while making him immune to slowing effects. That line alone explains much of the 44.3% Kayle records over 176 games on patch 16.13.1, because Radiant Blast’s slow, her main tool for holding distance, is switched off during the seconds it is needed most.

• Wuju Style grants bonus true damage on his basic attacks, which ignores both the 97.4 armour she reaches at level 18 and the 22 magic resist she starts with.
• Alpha Strike makes him untargetable while it travels, so attacks and a charged Starfire Spellblade are wasted if she commits into it.
• Meditate restores health and cuts incoming damage, resetting a trade she believed she had won.

Kayle is not defenceless. Celestial Blessing heals and hands out move speed, Divine Judgment buys several invulnerable seconds, and Divine Ascent eventually gives her range that Yi cannot match, since he also attacks from 175 and gains nothing from levels there. He finishes tougher regardless, on 2,425 health and 109.5 armour against her 2,234 and 97.4, with 65 attack damage at level one to her 50, which is why a 176-game sample leans against her. Double Strike adds an extra hit every few consecutive attacks, so his damage arrives in clumps rather than a steady stream, and the difficulty scale rating of 4 against her 7 means the punishing side is also the cheaper one to learn.
