A pirate’s life in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced isn’t just about boarding actions, cannon duels, and treasure hunts. Sometimes, Edward Kenway can afford a brief respite—taking a break from naval battles to focus on the local wildlife. The developers at Ubisoft added a special achievement called “All-Rounder” (or “Friend to All”) to the remake, and it’s well worth the effort, even if the in-game description is slightly misleading.

Here’s the key thing to know right off the bat: the trophy requires you to pet or feed eight—not seven—species of friendly animals, contrary to what the in-game hint suggests. And if you think you’ll have to scour the entire West Indies in search of every single creature, I have good news: more than half of them can be found in one place.

Full list of friendly animals for the “All-Rounder” trophy

To unlock the achievement, you need to interact with the following animals:

  • Monkey – available in two ways: for free via the Animus Store or through a local event in Havana.
  • Cat – found in Havana and Kingston.
  • Dog – wanders the market and docks in Kingston.
  • Chicken – found in almost every settlement, but Kingston is the most reliable spot.
  • Pig – near the Harbormaster’s building in Kingston.
  • Cow – in the pen in the eastern part of Kingston.
  • Turtle – on the beach at Abaco Island.
  • Parrot – in cages at the Havana market or near the shop on Great Inagua.

The list looks long, but it’s actually simpler than it seems.

Kingston: The main hub for the “All-Rounder” trophy

Kingston is a true mecca for trophy hunters. More than half of the friendly animals live right here, making the city an ideal starting point. In Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, coordinates appear on the map as X and Y values indicating your position relative to the game world’s center.

Dog

In Kingston, you can find dogs in two locations. The first is at the market, right where the cats are (coordinates 619, 169). The second is at the city’s southern docks (616, 155). The dogs roam freely, so simply approach one and press the interaction button.

Cat

In Kingston, look for a cat at the market, north of the central synchronization point (616, 169). An alternative location is the southern docks of Havana (225, 570). Incidentally, the cats in this remake feature animations from Valhalla and Mirage; their behavior patterns have barely changed over the years.

Chicken

There are countless chickens at the Kingston market. Look for them just east of where the cats and dogs usually appear—at coordinates 617, 170. If you can’t find one there, don’t worry; chickens are found in almost every Caribbean settlement.

Pig

Head to the harbormaster in the southeastern part of Kingston (623, 157). You can usually find a pig wandering to the left of the building. It isn’t aggressive and will happily accept your petting.

Cow

Cows are the easiest to find—head to the far eastern part of Kingston (628, 162). Several cows are kept in a pen there. Approach any of them and pet it.

Havana — A City of Contrasts

Havana has fewer animals than Kingston, but still offers a decent selection.

Cat

In Havana, you can find a cat at the southern docks (225, 570). It usually wanders along the wooden decking by the water. If you don’t see it, walk along the docks; it’s bound to be nearby.

Monkey (“Monkey Business” local event)

The most reliable way to get a monkey in Havana is to complete the “Monkey Business” local event. Head south of Havana, find the Spanish ship at the docks, deal with the guards on board, and rescue the monkey named Albert.

By the way, there is an easier way. Open the Animus Store and scroll down to the companion monkey section—you can get it for free. Once acquired, go to your inventory and equip it in the “Pet” section. You can’t pet the monkey aboard the Jackdaw, so fast-travel to the estate on Great Inagua—it will be waiting for you there.

Parrot

Look for a parrot in Havana at the city market in the eastern part of the center. Cages containing parrots hang among the stalls; simply approach and feed the bird. A second parrot awaits you on Great Inagua—after fully upgrading the shop, it will appear in a cage right in front of the store.

Remote Islands

The remaining animals are scattered across more remote locations.

Turtle

Head to Abaco Island (582, 804). Turtles can be found on the shore. An important detail: if a turtle is swimming in the water, wait a moment for it to crawl back onto the beach—you cannot interact with them while they are in the water. However, you can feed them; the animation for feeding sea turtles was introduced specifically in the remake.

Friendly animals vs. companion pets: what’s the difference?

Many people confuse these two concepts, but the difference is fundamental.

Friendly animals are the ones you need to pet or feed to earn the “Universal Friend” trophy. There are eight types of them scattered across the world, and interacting with them changes nothing—you simply gain +1 toward the achievement’s progress.

Companion pets involve a completely different mechanic. In Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, you can bring four pets aboard the Jackdaw: two cats and two monkeys. They appear near the helm and serve a purely cosmetic function.

Here is the full list of companion pets:

Pet Rarity How to Obtain
Hollin (cat) Common Complete the local event “Cat Distribution System” on Grand Inagua after unlocking the hideout
Albert (monkey) Common Complete the local event “Monkey Business” in Havana after unlocking the hideout
Companion Monkey Rare Free in the Animus Store
Dark Animus Pet Legendary Reward for level 1 of the “Eye in the Dark” project in the Animus menu
Golden Tom Legendary Deluxe Edition of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced

Important: companion pets do not count toward the “Universal Friend” trophy. Conversely, petting friendly animals does not make them your pets on the Jackdaw. These are two parallel mechanics, and you need to engage with both to fully complete the game.

Complete checklist of friendly animals for the “A Friend to All” trophy

To ensure you don’t miss anything, here is a handy checklist to track your progress:

  • Monkey — Animus Store (free) + Great Inagua estate OR “Monkey Business” event in Havana
  • Cat — Kingston (616, 169) OR Havana (225, 570)
  • Dog — Kingston (619, 169 or 616, 155)
  • Chicken — Kingston (617, 170)
  • Pig — Kingston (623, 157)
  • Cow — Kingston (628, 162)
  • Turtle — Abaco (582, 804) — wait on the shore
  • Parrot — Havana (market) OR Great Inagua (near the shop)

You can track your progress in the game’s achievements menu—the system will indicate which animals you have already found.

FAQs About Friendly Animals

How many animals do I need to pet for the “Everyone’s Best Friend” trophy?

Eight—even though the achievement description says seven.

Can I get the monkey for free?

Yes. Open the Animus Store, find the section for the companion monkey, and “buy” it for 0 coins.

Do the pets on the Jackdaw count toward the trophy?

No. Companion pets are a separate cosmetic feature that doesn’t affect the “Everyone’s Best Friend” achievement.

Where can I find coordinates in the game?

Coordinates are displayed in the bottom-right corner of the map. The first number is X (horizontal), and the second is Y (vertical).

What should I do if the turtle is in the water?

Wait a few minutes; it will come ashore, and then you can interact with it.

The “Everyone’s Best Friend” trophy in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced isn’t the hardest to get, but it isn’t the most obvious one either. The key is to ignore the in-game description and remember the eighth animal. And if you want to spice up your pirate life, get a cat or a monkey for the Jackdaw. They don’t offer gameplay bonuses, but they do lift your spirits—and that, you have to admit, is important too.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is available now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Hoist the sails and set off to find your furry and feathered friends.
