Once Human is now available on Xbox Series consoles as a free-to-play survival game and is included with Game Pass benefits. The release supports cross-play, cross-progression and Xbox Play Anywhere, allowing one account to move between supported devices. Console players can switch between first-person and third-person views, build territories and capture Deviations that assist in combat or resource work. NetEase has also outlined an ocean expansion planned for October.

Cross-progression reduces the cost of changing devices

A player who already has a developed character can continue on Xbox without rebuilding every territory and collection from the beginning, provided the correct account is linked. The linking step deserves care because a new console profile may create an empty identity. Verify the existing character on the account page before starting a fresh session. Cross-play also means friends can remain together even when one person changes platform.

Two camera views serve different tasks

First-person view makes close exploration and precise aiming more direct on a large display, while third-person view provides more information about the character and nearby threats. Neither perspective needs to dominate every activity. Players can use a quiet area to match sensitivity and field of view before switching during combat. Keeping separate expectations for each camera prevents one set of controls from feeling wrong simply because it was tuned for the other.

The strange world turns familiar objects into threats

Once Human builds its identity by changing ordinary forms into biological and mechanical anomalies. A subway can conceal a huge creature, while vehicles and household shapes may move in impossible ways. This design makes observation important because silhouette alone is not a reliable guide to safety. The player should watch movement and environmental effects before approaching an object that appears useful from a distance.

Deviations connect collection to practical work

Captured Deviations can support combat, movement, crafting or territory maintenance. The useful choice depends on the next task, not only on rarity. A defensive companion may protect a resource trip, while a worker can improve a quiet building session. Giving each one a suitable home and checking its condition is part of the system. A large collection has little value if every helper is assigned without a clear purpose.

A territory should solve storage before decoration

The building tools allow detailed homes, workshops and defenses, but the first structure needs safe storage and a reliable production route. Place frequently used stations near the materials they consume and leave enough space to expand. A beautiful camp that forces repeated trips across several floors becomes tiring during a long session. Decoration is easier to enjoy after the working areas have a readable layout.

Game Pass benefits do not replace the free game

Subscribers receive cosmetic and progression-related extras, including an avatar, a benefit card, vouchers and experience cards. The base game remains free, and the developer states that the experience is not designed around paying for combat power. Players should inspect the duration and conditions of each benefit before using it. A temporary card is most valuable during a planned period of active play, not when it is claimed automatically before a break.

The ocean expansion changes both travel and building

The planned update moves survival onto islands, the sea surface and deeper water. Players will be able to develop a raft into a mobile sea fortress while encountering lighthouses, ghost ships and mechanical enemies. A moving base changes the value of fixed territory habits. Preparing flexible storage and learning which resources are truly essential may matter more than constructing a permanent room for every possible item.

A new Xbox player should begin with one shared objective

The world contains hundreds of hours of tasks, so a group can lose direction if every marker is followed at once. Choose one territory location, one nearby resource route and one story objective for the first session. Test cross-play communication before entering a difficult zone. This modest start reveals whether the group prefers building, exploration or combat and gives the next session a purpose based on experience rather than a long menu.
