Blizzard has moved beyond a title reveal and outlined the foundation of Diablo V, planned for spring 2029. The next game starts in a Sanctuary where Diablo has already won, the old champions are gone and Westmarch has become an outpost of Hell. Players take the role of the Heir to Westmarch and travel with a growing caravan of survivors. The first class group includes the Demon Hunter, Monk and a new Plague Knight, while the item system looks back to Diablo II for clearer requirements and stronger differences between equipment.

The enemy is present from the beginning

Previous Diablo stories often built toward the arrival of a greater evil. Diablo V changes that starting position. The Lord of Terror rules from Westmarch and uses captured people and souls in the wider Eternal Conflict. The landscape is not waiting for disaster; it has already been altered by it. That allows ordinary travel, shelter and supplies to carry as much narrative weight as the eventual battles against major enemies.

The player character has a mysterious connection to Diablo. Blizzard describes that link as both a danger and a reason the Heir can challenge the new order. It is a useful source of pressure because power cannot be treated as a free gift. The same connection that opens a way forward can make the hero vulnerable to influence, and the story can test decisions without relying only on a final revelation.

A caravan replaces the idea of a safe capital

Survivors accompany the Heir through the ruined western continent. A moving caravan suggests that safety will be temporary and earned. New people can join, resources can become important between fights and the group may react to places transformed by Diablo. Blizzard has not detailed a settlement system, so it would be wrong to promise base building. What is confirmed is a growing company that travels with the protagonist.

That choice also gives the campaign a human scale. A fallen kingdom is easier to understand through people looking for the next secure road than through a map covered in red territory. The caravan can show the cost of each region and provide recurring relationships while the player moves between dungeons. It offers continuity without pretending that one town remains untouched by the wider defeat.

Three classes establish different forms of survival

The Demon Hunter and Monk return with identities players already recognise, but their presence does not mean their complete skill sets are unchanged. The Demon Hunter points toward ranged pressure, traps and measured movement. The Monk represents disciplined close combat and mobility. Blizzard has only introduced the classes at a high level, so specific abilities, resource systems and final equipment options remain part of later updates.

The Plague Knight is the genuinely new name. Its place beside two established classes suggests a fighter who can turn corruption, disease or dangerous materials into tools, but the announcement does not define every mechanic. The important point is thematic: a world already occupied by Hell needs survivors willing to use methods that earlier heroes might have rejected. Class identity begins with that difficult relationship to the setting.

Equipment is meant to be readable and distinctive

Blizzard says Diablo II influences the new approach to items. Stat requirements are being tested, large objects may occupy more inventory space, and sets are returning. Runes and Runewords are also part of the current direction. None of these references guarantees a direct recreation of an older economy. They show that equipment should ask the player to make choices before a fight, not simply equip every item with the largest displayed number.

Inventory space gives physical size a cost, while attribute requirements can make a powerful weapon unsuitable for one build. Sets create a longer goal but need individual pieces to remain useful before the collection is complete. Clear identity matters most: a player should understand why a piece belongs in a build and what is being sacrificed. Blizzard says the system is still in development, leaving room for testing and revision.

The long development window changes how to read the reveal

Diablo V is planned for spring 2029, and regular development updates are expected to begin in 2027. That distance makes this a statement of direction rather than a finished feature list. The fallen Sanctuary, travelling survivors and first three classes are the stable ideas Blizzard has chosen to present. Exact balance, interface details and the size of individual regions can change before release.

The reveal is still substantial because it connects story and systems. A conquered world explains the desperate caravan, the Heir’s uncertain power and the harsher class fantasy. Equipment rules support deliberate character building instead of sitting apart from the narrative. The strongest reason to follow future updates is not one promised number; it is whether Blizzard keeps these pieces working toward the same clear premise.

Diablo IV is discounted while players wait

Steam currently lists Diablo IV Standard Edition at 75 percent off and the Lord of Hatred expansion at 25 percent off. Both offers are scheduled to end on September 24. The base game does not include every expansion: Vessel of Hatred and Lord of Hatred are separate parts of the current Diablo IV catalogue. A reader interested in today’s game should compare the contents of each edition before buying rather than assume that the reduced base-game price includes both expansions.

Those sale prices belong to Diablo IV, not to the newly announced Diablo V. The future game’s spring 2029 window is far away, so the promotion offers a way to play an existing entry now. Steam’s store page is the right place to check the final price in a local currency and confirm that the discount is still active before payment.
