It seems that Nintendo is preparing the main gift for the anniversary of its key franchise — a full-fledged remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time may be released as early as the end of 2026. The original, released almost three decades ago, is rightfully considered one of the greatest games in the industry, but technically the project has long required a total update. Rumors about Link’s return to Hyrule have been circulating for years, and now they have become concrete.

Nate the Hate insider, a source with an almost impeccable reputation in matters of Nintendo’s plans, claims that the release is scheduled for the 2026 holiday season. Apparently, the Japanese company is not planning major presentations before its traditional June show. It is at the summer Direct that the long-awaited announcement is likely to take place.

The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time remake: what to expect from the new version

Although there are few details about the project yet, Nate the Hate focuses on one important point — it will be a complete reworking from scratch. We are waiting for not just a cosmetic upgrade in the spirit of Ocarina of Time 3D, but a fundamental remake based on a modern engine. How radically Nintendo will decide to revise the game design and classic mechanics is still an open question.

The choice of date seems logical, because 2026 is the year of The 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda series. Considering that Nintendo has not yet announced large-scale holiday events, the release of the Ocarina reimagining will be the perfect end to the anniversary year.

  • Developer: Nintendo (presumably);
  • Date of announcement: June 2026;
  • Expected release: November-December 2026;
  • Platform: Nintendo Switch 2 (or current generation).

Why is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time coming back right now

For the industry, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is not just nostalgia, but the foundation of action—adventure games. The anniversary of the series (the actual 40th anniversary was in February) is a great reason for Nintendo to roll out “heavy artillery”. Nate the Hate’s insider status makes you believe in the reality of leaks: he’s rarely wrong when it comes to big “N” titles.

It remains to wait until June, when it will become more clear whether this leak will turn into the main hit of 2026. For now, fans can only guess whether Nintendo will retain the spirit of the original or decide to completely reinvent the classics to modern standards.
