Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game has an exact release date — an action movie based on the cult animated series will be released on July 2, 2026. Publisher PM Studios and developers from the Gameplay Group have confirmed the list of platforms: the project will look at PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, as well as the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 and Steam. But the owners of the pasta are unlikely to be pleased with the news — the PS4 version, apparently, has been completely canceled.

Gameplay and technology: rollback netcode and crossplay in action
![]()
At its core, this is a classic 1-on-1 2D fighting game, where the characters’ elemental abilities have been turned into spectacular combat mechanics. Visually, the game looks very authentic — more than 900 animation frames have been manually rendered for each character. The developers clearly wanted the gameplay to feel like an animated animated series — and, apparently, they succeeded.
From the technical side, there is also a complete order. The network code supports rollback netcode, the de facto standard for modern fighting games that minimizes online delays. In addition, the authors confirmed a full—fledged crossplay, so you can play with friends regardless of which console is under the TV. After the October announcement and the closed alpha stage, the project is finally reaching the finish line. It won’t be long now — until July 2, 2026, it’s just around the corner.
It’s worth taking a closer look at who exactly will enter the arena on the day of release, because the roster of fighters is the foundation of any decent fighting game.
All 12 Avatar Legends fighters and their bending styles

Aang: airbender and Avatar State mobility
The composition of Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game at the start includes 12 game characters — the developers have allocated 3 masters for each element. Each airbender, firebender, waterbender or earthbender here is not just a model with a set of punches, but the embodiment of a specific martial arts school from the series. Predictably, Aang took the place of the central character: his abilities as an airbender are honed for insane mobility. Avatar’s arsenal includes the famous air scooter for instant dashes, a series of vortex combos with vacuum grips, and the ultimate Avatar State. The latter turns the hero into a killing machine for 5 seconds, allowing you to combine all the elements into one crushing rush.
Qatar: healing wave and bloodbending grab
Katara— a master of water magic from the Southern Water Tribe, brings a rather rare healing wave mechanic to the genre, regenerating up to 20% HP in just a second. But don’t be fooled by her peacefulness: in the meter state, Katara activates bloodbending grab for remote captures, and in normal combat, she sets up freezing puddles-traps. Her signature super — aggressive octopus form rush looks as impressive as possible.
Zuko: Lightning redirect and Fiery Whips
![]()
The representative of the Fire Nation, Zuko, relies on the canonical lightning redirect technique, which is a powerful counterattack against projectables. As a firebender, he feels great at medium range thanks to his fire whips, and his breath of fire super combo can deal 300+ damage with perfect timing.
Toph: seismic sense and metalbending spike
Toph, the undisputed queen among earthbender, has received a unique passive seismic sense. It allows you to literally “sense” your opponent through obstacles for perfect punishment. In addition, Toph uses metal spikes (metalbending spike) and creates non-blocking zones using lava (lavabending pool).
The other participants of the tournament are no less colorful:
-
Sokka is a weapon master with no bending abilities, relying on his trusty boomerang and sword dancing technique.
-
Azula — uses blue flames (blue fireballs), jerks in flight and crazy lightning frenzy.
-
Suki is a master of close combat with fans/swords (dual swords) and aerial support.
-
Korra is a hybrid fighter who combines water magic and pure energy.
-
Bumi is an expert on heavy earth launches.
-
Tai Li is a chi-block master who can temporarily block an opponent.
-
Jinno — specializes in powerful jumps and square kicks (double earth stomp).
Interestingly, each hero can use 3 assists from the total pool of elements — such a synergy, for example, airbender speed and firebender damage, seriously expands the scope of the usual 2D fighting games. Based on data from closed alpha, the game’s balance is built around cooperative combinations of magic, which competitors in the genre simply don’t have now.
