SiN Reloaded releases on Steam on September 24. Nightdive Studios and Ritual Entertainment have rebuilt the 1998 first-person shooter in the KEX Engine, including the original campaign and the Wages of SiN expansion with modern controls, remastered assets and support for current displays.

Steam brings the full package to modern PCs

The release combines the original SiN and its extra mission pack instead of selling the expansion as a separate historical add-on. Nightdive’s KEX Engine work is meant to remove technical barriers without flattening SiN’s original structure. Modern mouse input and widescreen support make the game easier to operate, while the levels still expect the player to inspect terminals and alternate paths.

Steam achievements, cloud support and family sharing sit alongside a demo for players who want to test the remaster first. Modern controls should be adjusted around the player’s preferred field of view and mouse sensitivity. The goal is predictable aim during quick fights without making slower terminal interaction or narrow movement feel unstable.

John R. Blade still follows the original conflict

The campaign follows security consultant John Blade against Elexis Sinclaire and SinTEK after a DNA-altering drug reaches the streets. Cloud saves are useful, but a manual save before experimenting with a branch or difficult fight gives the player a cleaner recovery point. That habit also suits a campaign designed around exploration and alternate approaches.

The remaster preserves that story structure rather than rewriting the game into a modern reboot. Wages of SiN is included with the main campaign, which matters for anyone trying to understand the size of the Steam package. The expansion follows the original release rather than appearing as a separate purchase after the credits.

Interactive levels remain the central attraction

Terminals, cameras, vehicles and branching routes allow the player to influence how a stage unfolds instead of moving through one fixed corridor. The playable demo is the most direct compatibility check. It can reveal whether aiming, interface scale and movement feel comfortable on the current PC before the buyer commits to the complete remaster.

The value of that freedom comes from observing a space before firing, because a useful control panel can be lost in the middle of a rushed fight. The remaster’s value lies in preserving SiN’s unusual interactions while making them accessible on current systems. Its success should be measured by that balance, not by whether every 1998 design choice has been replaced.

The KEX Engine updates presentation and input

Higher resolutions, modern aiming, improved maps and refreshed textures make the older design easier to use on current hardware. Achievements and modern platform features add convenience without changing the route through a mission. They are useful records of progress, but the remaster’s central work remains input, display support and preservation of the original campaigns.

A remaster can smooth technical friction while keeping the original level logic and its more demanding navigation. SiN’s interactive spaces reward curiosity. A camera feed, computer or vehicle may change the route through a level, so firing immediately at every visible object can remove the very option that makes the encounter interesting.

The demo offers a sensible first check

Players unsure about the pace can use the Steam demo to test controls, readability and performance before buying the full release. Older level design can be less explicit about the next objective than a modern corridor shooter. Checking the environment and recent message before assuming the route is blocked prevents unnecessary backtracking.

That check is especially useful for an older shooter whose deliberate exploration may feel different from a modern linear campaign. The best comparison is therefore not between SiN Reloaded and a new blockbuster shooter.

It is between the friction of the old PC release and the clarity with which this version presents the same interactive design today.
