CONTROL Resonant launches worldwide on Steam on September 24. Remedy’s new action RPG moves beyond the Oldest House into a distorted Manhattan and makes Dylan Faden the only playable lead, while Jesse Faden remains important to the story that connects the siblings.

Steam receives the PC release on launch day

The PC release reaches Steam and the Epic Games Store on launch day, alongside versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series systems. Moving the crisis into Manhattan changes the scale of Control’s altered spaces. Streets and public interiors can connect supernatural events to an inhabited city, so route signs and strong landmarks need to remain readable when geometry begins to shift.

This is the confirmed worldwide launch date rather than an older announcement about a distant release window. Steam players should allow the first shader process to finish before judging performance. Repeated stutter during compilation is different from a persistent frame-rate problem, and changing several settings at once makes that distinction harder to see.

Dylan now moves the story forward

The first Control presented Dylan as a person corrupted and controlled by the Hiss. Resonant asks who he is after that history instead of repeating the same role. The opening Manhattan area provides a useful benchmark because it combines movement, lighting and multiple effects. A stable result there gives a better starting profile than selecting the highest preset before the game has loaded a demanding scene.

Jesse remains central to the wider narrative, but the player controls Dylan throughout this journey. Dylan’s role is not a simple exchange of one Faden sibling for another. His history with the Hiss and the Bureau gives the sequel a different emotional centre, while Jesse’s continued importance preserves the family conflict established by the first game.

Manhattan expands the scale of the altered world

The crisis reaches streets, interiors and public spaces outside the Oldest House, giving the supernatural events a different physical scale. Close-range combat asks for a clearer exit plan than a distant Service Weapon exchange. Entering with every ability on cooldown can leave Dylan inside a crowd, so one movement or defensive option should remain available after the opening attack.

A larger setting only helps when routes and objectives remain legible during distortion, so environmental signals carry practical value. Resonant will ultimately be judged by whether Dylan’s mechanics, Jesse’s role and the city crisis reinforce one another. A larger map alone is not enough; each new space needs a clear gameplay and narrative purpose.

Combat moves toward close-range action RPG choices

Dylan’s approach places greater weight on movement, melee timing and deliberate ability combinations than a simple copy of Jesse’s service weapon routine. Checkpoint spacing will shape how experimental combat feels. A fair return point lets the player test a new ability combination, while a long repeated approach can discourage the risk-taking expected from an action RPG.

An aggressive build still needs an exit plan because crowd pressure can punish a player who spends every option on entry. An action-RPG structure also makes build choices more visible. Damage, control and survivability need to support the same combat rhythm instead of competing for resources without producing a coherent approach.

A clean technical start protects the first impression

Steam players should install the launch update, let shaders finish and test frame pacing before raising every graphics setting. Busy effects can make an encounter difficult to read even when the frame rate is stable. Reducing one costly visual option and checking motion settings may improve threat recognition without removing the distorted style that defines the series.

The opening area is a useful benchmark because it combines effects, movement and busy geometry without requiring a later save.
