Capcom has revealed Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance. The expansion is planned for 2027 and has not launched. It continues the Expedition Team’s story after the ending of the base game, moves the timeline forward by several years and opens the Skybound Eyrie above the clouds. The base game will be required, along with Hunter Rank 40 and completion of the quest Awaking From a Dream.

The story begins with a threat the hunters cannot stop

Lao-Shan Lung appears suddenly in the Forbidden Lands and leaves the Expedition Team unable to stop the destruction. The narrative then advances several years. During that period, the group strengthens its position and builds Madoi Stronghold in preparation for another attack. This structure avoids presenting the hunter as immediately capable of solving every threat. It also lets familiar characters change between the base story and the expansion. The announcement confirms the devastation and time jump, but does not reveal the final role of Lao-Shan Lung.

The lifted mist reveals a new area above the clouds

The Skybound Eyrie is described as a region floating above the clouds, with open landscapes, ancient ruins and unfamiliar endemic life. Reaching a high locale can change more than the background. Flight paths, edges and elevation may affect how a monster approaches and where a hunter can recover. Capcom has not published a complete map, so route claims should remain cautious. What is clear is that the new region expands the ecology upward and provides a place for disturbances that were not visible while Wyveria’s skies remained covered.

Subject Announced detail
Release Planned for 2027
New location Skybound Eyrie
Named monsters Lao-Shan Lung, Arakeeta and Gundoraja
Entry requirement Hunter Rank 40 and completion of Awaking From a Dream

Arakeeta uses coordinated movement instead of solitary force

Arakeeta is a Bird Wyvern that travels at high speed by controlling air currents from its wings. Pack leaders can use calls to coordinate the group. A hunt against several connected creatures creates a different problem from one large target: watching only the nearest body may leave the hunter exposed to an attack arriving from another angle. Capcom plans to make an Arakeeta hunt playable at Tokyo Game Show 2026. That demonstration should provide the first practical evidence about its timing, but the full expansion remains scheduled for the following year.

Gundoraja brings the storm into the encounter

Gundoraja is a newly revealed Elder Dragon able to control storm clouds over the Skybound Eyrie. The description connects weather and monster behavior, although the exact gameplay effects have not yet been listed. It would be premature to assign specific elemental weaknesses or craft materials. The reliable point is that hunters will investigate ecological abnormalities, expanding Guardian Monster habitats and the appearance of Elder Dragons. Gundoraja sits inside that larger mystery rather than being presented as an isolated arena boss with no relationship to the new region.

The Boost Bracer changes familiar weapons temporarily

The Boost Bracer works through the Slinger and enables Boost Action. Its Boost Driver creates an opening, followed by a temporary state that strengthens the distinct qualities of all 14 weapon types. This is not described as one identical damage button for every weapon. A Great Sword, Bow or Hunting Horn should preserve its own identity while using the new system. More weapon abilities will be shown later. Players can therefore understand the broad rhythm now, but should wait for individual demonstrations before deciding that a current build will transfer unchanged into Master Rank.

Nata returns with a different role

Nata is no longer only the young Keeper seen earlier. After the time jump, he has become a hunter and travels with the Wudwud Bangard. Their guidance leads the player toward the Skybound Eyrie. This development gives the passage of time a visible human result, not just a new date in dialogue. Other returning characters are also expected to reflect the years since the encounter with Arkveld. The expansion can use those changes to show how the expedition adapted before the player arrives at the next crisis.
