Sucker Punch announced Jin Sakai as the fourth playable character in Ghost of Yotei: Most Wanted. The single-player survival mode is planned for 1 October as part of the Complete Edition and its upgrade; it is not available yet. Each attempt begins with a bounty, continues through enemy waves and minibosses, and ends against a member of the Yotei Six. Players gain temporary perks during an attempt and use in-game currency for permanent unlocks between attempts.

A bounty gives each attempt a clear target

The bounty board lets the player choose a target connected to the Yotei Six. Reaching that target requires surviving waves and minibosses, so the final fight cannot be planned in isolation. A perk that solves the current wave may leave a weakness later, while a slower investment can become valuable against the boss. Bounties can be replayed at higher difficulty and eventually lead to the hardest target, Lord Saito. The structure encourages learning one route before increasing pressure instead of treating a failed run as lost story progress.

Temporary perks change the character during each attempt

After waves, the player selects perks related to weapon mastery, gear, summons, parries or survival. Those choices are the centre of the roguelike structure. A strong build needs interaction between effects, not simply the highest damage number in every slot. For example, reliable defence can create more opportunities to use a slower weapon bonus. Because the offered choices may vary, the player should identify the current weakness first. Copying one fixed sequence will be less dependable than understanding which part of the character is failing.

Character Distinct equipment
Atsu Dual katana, Metsubushi and Blind Bomb
Oyuki Kusarigama, kunai and tanegashima
Nagato Spear, pistol and two bows
Jin Sakai Katana with four stances, Sticky Bomb and hankyu

Permanent upgrades remain available after a failed attempt

Mon is earned during play and spent outside runs on techniques, weapon upgrades, charms and character unlocks. This permanent layer gives an unsuccessful attempt a purpose, provided the player learns enough to spend intelligently. Early purchases should improve a repeated problem rather than a rare perfect situation. If a character struggles to reach the miniboss, survival or basic weapon consistency may matter more than a late-run bonus. Cosmetics earned through Most Wanted also unlock in the main game, connecting the mode to Atsu’s original journey without changing its completed story.

Atsu combines two blades with tools that restrict enemies

Atsu is the default character. She carries dual katana, Metsubushi blinding powder and a Blind Bomb. Her Call of the Pack ultimate summons two wolves against nearby enemies, while Onryo’s Howl frightens the surrounding group and forces one opponent to flee. This kit creates space rather than relying only on a single heavy strike. Blinding and fear can separate threats, allowing the player to choose an order. The wolves are most valuable when several targets remain close enough to justify the activation.

Oyuki and Nagato control distance in different ways

Oyuki combines the kusarigama, kunai and a tanegashima rifle. Shadow Killer uses smoke to create two nearby assassinations, and Shadow Shinobi calls a temporary Nine Tails ally. Nagato carries a spear, pistol, long bow and short bow. His Gambler’s Mark guarantees headshots on two selected enemies, while Blast Arrow restores Concentration and supplies an explosive arrow. Both can act at range, but Oyuki leans toward concealment and sudden removal whereas Nagato has a wider set of direct ranged answers.

Jin returns with the four combat stances from his original game

Jin uses a katana with all four stances from Ghost of Tsushima, helping him answer different enemy types. He also starts with a Sticky Bomb and hankyu. Dance of Wrath targets and disarms several opponents, while Ghost Stance can terrify nearby enemies and defeat a limited number with single hits. The design preserves his recognizable tools inside a new run structure. Players still need to switch stance for the opponent in front of them; nostalgia does not remove the need to read guard, weapon and spacing.
