Polyphony Digital has announced the free Spec IV update for Gran Turismo 7. It has not been released yet. The first part is planned for October 2026 and the second for December. Across both stages, the studio plans to add Sportsland SUGO, the returning Autumn Ring, 12 cars, online Drift Trials, Shuffle Races and a Family Mode designed for players with different levels of experience.

The first October circuit requires precise direction changes

Sportsland SUGO is known for elevation changes and a flowing sequence of corners. That combination asks a driver to position the car before the road changes rather than correct the line after the apex. The Dunlop bridge provides a recognizable landmark, but the useful reference points will be braking boards, kerbs and the moment the surface rises or falls. When the circuit arrives, a cautious first run in a familiar road car will provide more information than an immediate attempt in the fastest available machine. Stable speed makes the geometry easier to learn.

Autumn Ring returns in a rebuilt form

Autumn Ring first appeared in the original Gran Turismo and is due to return in December. Its value is not limited to nostalgia. A modern version can show how an older layout works with current handling, lighting and online systems. Players who remember the previous circuit should still treat the new release as a fresh track until the final boundaries and surfaces are known. Old braking points may offer a starting idea, but they are not confirmed data. The announcement establishes the circuit’s identity without claiming that every earlier detail will remain unchanged.

Twelve cars are confirmed, but the list remains unknown

The studio confirmed a total of 12 cars across the two parts and deliberately left their identities for a later reveal. That distinction matters. A category, manufacturer or specific model should not be presented as confirmed merely because it appeared in a trailer background or a community prediction. Players can save in-game money without relying on an invented list. Waiting also avoids selling a current car that may be useful for a new event. The next official presentation should provide a better basis for garage decisions than isolated frames from the announcement video.

Drift Trials and Shuffle Races ask for different skills

Online Drift Trials will judge control, precision and style, while Shuffle Races will introduce randomized conditions that require adaptation. A drift setup values a predictable break in rear grip and a line that can be repeated. A shuffled race may reward a broader garage and quick reading of unfamiliar equipment or conditions. Treating both modes as ordinary circuit races would hide their purpose. Drivers can practice throttle modulation for one and varied cars for the other, then change their expectations when the event rules become available.

Family Mode is scheduled for the December stage

Family Mode is intended as a welcoming starting point when people with different experience share the game. Polyphony has not yet published every rule, so it is safer to describe the goal than invent assists or restrictions. The important point is that the mode is planned for December, not October. A household considering the update can keep controllers and local settings ready, but no one should expect the feature in the first Spec IV download. Clear timing prevents an accurate announcement from becoming a false report after translation.

The update also reaches beyond cars and circuits

The announcement mentions new Driving Experiences, an expanded Car Viewer, progression elements and a Concierge feature for car buying. These systems may change how a player discovers a vehicle or chooses the next goal. Their exact operation remains to be explained. It is therefore useful to keep them in a separate list from features with firmer descriptions. The same rule applies to progression: the studio confirmed additions, not a complete replacement of the current structure.

Existing progress should not be described as deleted or converted without an official statement.
