The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 beta continues to offer surprises. This time, the developers at Infinity Ward have decided to shake up the movement system—and they’ve done it quite radically. Tactical Sprint, which was a core mechanic for everyone, has now been transformed into a perk called Blood Rush. Yes, that sprint that allowed you to run faster with a weapon drawn is no longer available by default—it must be earned through your class.

But that’s not the only new feature. The August 28th patch addressed not only tactical sprint but other aspects of mobility as well. The studio also adjusted the time-to-kill (TTK)—it had already been increased after the previous update, and now they’ve decided to increase it further. Why? To improve survivability and give players more room to show off their skills. In theory, this should reduce the number of instant deaths and make firefights more meaningful.

All the necessary changes are as follows. Tactical Sprint has been moved to the Blood Rush perk slot, with the transition time from sprint to shooting now the same as for regular sprinting—the penalty has almost disappeared. However, tactical sprint speed has been reduced by 4%—a tradeoff for the ability to shoot faster after sprinting. Additionally, base speed with knives and pistols has been increased, making aggressive play with light weapons more appealing.

Sliding has also been affected. Sliding distance has been reduced by 10%, speed by 9%, and the delay between sliding and jumping has increased. Stamina has been reduced by 8%. Additionally, bugs that allowed players to jump onto inaccessible objects and get stuck when climbing ladders and pipes have been fixed. A small, but nice touch.

Important: Infinity Ward calls this a beta experiment. The developers assure that player feedback will be decisive—if the changes aren’t well-received, they may be rolled back or revised. But if Blood Rush remains, the studio will need to consider its synergies with other perks to avoid imbalances. And these are just a few of the changes—the full list also affected killstreaks, respawn points, and other gameplay elements, but we’ll leave those for a separate discussion.

In short, the Modern Warfare 4 beta is becoming an increasingly experimental platform. And it seems the developers are truly listening to feedback—they’re just testing their hypotheses on live players for now. We’ll see what comes of this in future patches.
